President Rodrigo Duterte declared on Saturday evening that drug personalities who protects and financed the Maute group is soon to be arrested.
"In the days ahead we will arrest all of them. Number one 'yung nag-produce ng shabu, nagbigay ng pera sa terorista, they will all be arrested, whether politicians or not," the President stated in his visit in Cagayan de Oro City.
"We will charge you accordingly. We will detain you more than 'yung six days-six days. There will be at once an inquest and if there is a probable cause, I would like them to be detained forever," Pres. Duterte added.
Duterte explained that a number of drug personalities in Marawi City, where over 200 members of the terrorist group are believed to be still holed up more than a week following the ISIS-inspired group’s attack last May 23.
“Marami ‘yan dito sa Marawi, kalakasan. Kaya nga ang supply ng shabu dito sa Cagayan [de Oro] hindi maubus-ubos eh,” added the President.
According to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa during the press briefing on Monday that the Maute group along with drug lords as well as politicians involved with illegal drugs are usually protecting each other.
Dela Rosa explained that even before he assumed as PNP chief, he received information which drug lords coming from Metro Manila, Luzon and also the Visayas attended a "drug summit" together with the Maute group and narcopoliticians.
The PNP chief said that the PNP is will take advantage of the President's declaration of martial law within Mindanao to solve the problem of narcopolitics in the southern region.
