Salamat Willie Revillame at Jan-Jan!
Gusto kong magpasalamat kay Willie Revillame at kay Jan-Jan at nang dahil sa kanila, nakita at napatunayan natin kung gaano kababang uri ng tao ang maraming Pilipino. Nagulat ako at nadismaya sa aking napanood. Isang batang anim na taong gulang ay tinuruan ng kanyang tiyahin na magsayaw ng malaswa upang siya ay magantimpalaan ng pera kapalit ang kanyang dangal. Dinala siya ng kanyang tiyahin sa palabas ni Willie at ipinagputa niya ito. Bilang “Mama San” o “Bugaw”, siya ay galak na galak habang naiiyak sa hiya ang batang gumigiling sa harap ng mga taong di ko malaman kung bakit tuwang tuwa. Walang nakakatuwa sa palabas na iyon at may mali sa utak ng mga taong makukuhang matawa sa kanilang nakita.

Ang bata ay hindi makakaintindi o makakasikmura na isaalang-alang ang kanyang pagkatao kapalit ng salapi. Sila ay dapat ituring na may buong pagkatao at hindi imulat sa mga madidilim na bahagi ng sangkatauhan sa kanilang murang edad. Ang pagpuputa ay isang konsepto na dapat ipaintindi sa mga nasa wastong edad at hindi pilit na iparanas sa isang walang kamuang muang na musmos. Kaya marami sa mundo ang naniniwalang mga puta ang Pilipina o puwede nilang alipustahin ang mga Pilipino basta bayaran nila ang mga ito ay dahil tayo mismo ay hindi nagpapahalaga sa ating sariling pagkatao.
Noong nagsimulang sumayaw ang bata, bakas na sa kanyang mukha ang matinding pagkasuya sa pinapagawa sa kanya hanggang sa hindi niya na napigilang tumulo ang kanyang luha. Maaaring tinuro sa kanya ng kanyang tiyahin na tama ang ginagawa niya ngunit sa puso niya alam niyang niyuyurakan ang kanyang pagkatao sa harap ng milyon milyong tagapanood. Siya ay ginamit para magka pera ang mga nasa likod ng nakakasukang palabas na tinatangkilik ng mga taong walang konsepto ng tama o mali.
Kung inyong pagmamasdan, ang mga eksena na nagpapakita ng batang umiiyak habang nagsasayaw (at mga taong tumatawa at tinuturo siya) ay akala mo galing sa isang pelikulang sadyang ginawa tungkol sa pag-abuso sa kabataan. Ngunit alam nating lahat na hindi ito pelikula at hindi ito script. Ito ay isang “live” na palabas na napapanood ng lahat. Ang mga tao ay walang script na nagsasabing dapat magmukha silang masasama. Ganun talaga ang natural nilang reaksiyon sa kanilang nakita. Lumalabas lang na sa loob nila, likas silang masama. Wala kang makikitang mga mukhang nag-aalala o umiiling-iling man lang. Wala din na naglakas loob na pigilan ang ginagawa sa bata. Sa halip, ginugusto pa nilang paulit ulitin ang bata ng pagsayaw ng mahalay.
Nasaan na ang dignidad ng mga Pilipino? Bata pa lang ay tinuturuan na na isa-isantabi ito hanggang ito ay mawala na ng tuluyan.
Si Willie Revillame at ang kanyang mga palabas ay nagtuturo sa mga tao ng maling asal na hindi uubra sa tunay na buhay at sa mundo. Itinatanim niya sa utak ng kanyang mga manonood na ang paraan ng pagkuha ng gantimpala ay ang pagmumukhang tanga, pagsasayaw ng malaswa o pagsasabi ng mga kuwento na magpapamukhang kaawa awa sa kanilang sarili. Kung ang mga ibang kultura ay tinuturo na disiplina, katalinuhan at pagtatrabaho ang paraan upang magtagumpay, ang tinuturo naman ng mga katulad ni Willie ay dapat maging tanga, malaswa o kaawa-awa ang isang tao upang makamit ang tagumpay. Kaya wala na ngayon pag aatubili ang marami nating kababayan na maging mga puta o “drug mule” para lang kumita ng pera. Ito ay nagbabahid ng masamang imahe ng Pilipino at Pilipina sa mata ng mundo.
Sa pagpapakita ni Willie Revillame na ayos lang ang ginawa ng bata at karapat dapat itong tumanggap ng pera dahil sa kanyang ginawa, maraming kabataan sa buong bansa ang tutulad kay Jan-Jan nang balang araw sila ay magkakaroon din ng pera.
Habang ang mga taga ibang bansa na ka edad ni Jan Jan dalawampung taon mula ngayon ay nagmamanufacture na ng mga kotse, barko o computer, ang henerasyon ng mga Pilipino na na impluwensyahan ni Jan Jan ay matatagpuan na lang sa mga madidilim at mauusok na lugar, gumigiling at yumuyugyog habang wala nang luhang mai-iyak, hinihintay ang mga Willie na kailanman ay hindi na darating pa.

Thanks Archie. Ewan ko bakit nagtatagal ang mga ganyang palabas gayong basura lang naman yan. When I watch a show such as a Metallica concert (even on TV) I know that they spent months practicing and they show real talent. Whenever I see them, I know that I am watching millions of dollars worth of entertainment that took tremendous effort just to respect my time by giving me quality for it. If one watches Willie shows, it is just a bunch of people made to look pathetic. How is that entertaining? And Da Pinoy made Willie rich for the little to no effort he puts in the show and some peanuts as prize money? The whole country needs a shrink.

I don’t understand how some people say that Willie has no fault on this incident. Sure, the parents and guardian can be said had a greater contribution on this incident; but Willie also had the capability to ask the kid to stop at whatever he was doing. But did he do it? No, he didn’t – he consented, laughed at it and even remarked on how is it similar to a movie.
Somehow, this incident really shows how anti-intellectual Filipinos are. A lot of them shrugged them off saying what happened was for entertainment and no malice was intended. From this, I think we should reformat our entertainment industry because creating entertainment at the expense of someone’s dignity and making him/her miserable (especially if it’s a child) shouldn’t be tolerated.

I couldn’t agree more, people like Willie and all the people patronizing this kind of senseless entertainment which sends the wrong kind of message to the ignorant populace should be banned from ever showing their face on TV. Media has the responsibility of informing people and making them socially aware. Focusing on this kind of entertainment is very irresponsible…no wonder the Filipinos aren’t motivated to study or work hard to achieve their dreams because media emphasizes wrong values such as gambling and taking chances on noontime TV shows. No wonder all the teenagers in the Philippines are dreaming to become “artistas” and “performers” because the Media continually persuades people to dream of making it big in the entertainment business because it a way and sometimes the only way of escaping poverty.
I feel sorry for Jan Jan because he should be at home playing or studying and not being exploited by his auntie or his father for the sake of earning some money. I feel sorry for the all Filipinos who felt entertained by such travesty while they should have felt sympathy for the kid working for adults and sacrificing his dignity for his lazy parents and relatives.

i’ve commented a lot about this on Facebook and other sites. What I want to add is the act at the end of the clip when willie placed the kid on a platform that eventually moved up to almost double the height of the kid. impromptu at walang harness or safety aid sa bata kaya dangerous to think that willie probably cued the kid to dance when the platform reached the maximum height. d’yan pa lang eh putting the kid in danger na. kung nahilo yun at nahulog, walang guarantee ng safety kasi walang protocol. walang SOP. careless ang production and for that the director, producer and instigator host should be dealt with by the MTRCB and the KBP.

I respect everyone’s view or opinion about the incident concerning Willie and Janjan and while I agree that we should not exploit the children on the other hand, I believe that we need to be objective when we express our opinion and don’t put any color in it because we do not want the person (say Willie). The boy was dressed in full and decent way, he was not wearing a “string bikini” or sort of, Filipinos love to see kids dancing especially if they are dancing like a mature person (please watch those winners of kids reality programs of ABS) they also do the same type of dance when they guess in some shows; but since they do not belong to the “less privileged” category, it was just okay for most of us. Watching the video, for me, it was very obvious that Willie found the boy’s dance “cute” without any meaning to humiliate, he even kissed the boy on his forehead and he gave the boy extra money because he felt for the boy. If it was not Willie who did it to the boy, will those people who reacted negatively against Willie react the same way? I doubt it.
Let’s give Willie the chance to breath freely in this world, his intentions to share his blessings are real so why do bother too much when he can make people happy. I do believe in God and I believe if Willie is not sincere in helping the poor peole he will not be blessed as he is now. Thank you.

Problem is, what are we doing about it? Aside from the usual write ups and not watching moronic shows, what concrete steps can we take? We can condemn Willie to hell, but as long as he makes TV5 tons of money, pays his taxes, and doles out money to the masses, we’ll be back to business as usual in a week. Just like the ultra stampede, nothing good will come out of this.

You could boycott watching idiot shows and tell family members to do the same. Preach. Educate. Less audience means less reasons to advertise on those shows. No advertising and TV execs would be forced to rethink their shows. Hopefully, no substance-clowns that pose as entertainers will lose their place in the Philippine TV pantheon. The problem with all the preaching/awareness campaign is that it brings us nowhere. Kahit nga simpleng “huwag umihi dito” at “huwag magtapon ng basura dito” which is so ubiquitous you could already consider it part of the city scape, produces no result.
Kapag pilipino ang kausap mo dito sa pilipinas, you have to be more radical. You see, people here are more aware of dengue kasi nakamamatay. You can also see their involvement when they learned that the Japan nuke reactors are leaking radiation, kasi yun din nakamamatay. Even if that was a hoax, people moved to act, and quickly at that.
Once you put da pinoy’s ass on the line, he will move. Otherwise, good luck.
Don’t count on oligarchs changing the status quo, it’s like wishing humans can live in Mars. Oligarchs rule every segment of society in pinas, they are the same ones in congress, so do not expect any changes in the constitution.
My proposal: learn military tactics, especially marksmanship and explosives. Blow these good for nothing politicians to bits once they are in session. Wait for those who survived/late/absent and put one between their eyes. That’s the time we can move forward, replace them all in one go. Hmm.. I think the “Kill the ruling class” tactic has already been tried somewhere in Southeast Asia. I won’t pretend to know exactly which country. But in the end, I know they just replaced one oppressor with another. Killing a corrupt politician only leaves a vacuum that will be filled by another just as corrupt.
Personally I believe education is the best way to change a people. People have to WANT to change for the better. It is just so frustrating that most Filipinos are either content with their lot or are waiting for a savior to lift them from poverty.

I think we should start creating awareness and start breaking up the system of Elite rule in the Philippines. The media is responsible for brainwashing the masa but who owns the Media? The families with money are the ones controlling everything dictating the socio-economic political atmosphere in the Philippines. Willie is just a pawn just like everyone else acting on their behalf to spread propaganda and maintain the status quo. If we want to start change we should start with the roots. It’s not just us Filipinos who need to change our attitudes, we should also radically change the system and distribute power so we can move forward economically and politically. We will remain a poor country if we keep being tied to the iron law of oligarchy. We will only improve if we manage to overthrow the ones in power!

This is not the first time “WANKY WILLY” made fun, bullied or embarrassed kids in his stupid show. People in this country apparently enjoy slapstick, cheap and lame jokes to feel better and they love to feed on the misery of other people. Says a lot about the quality and level of their thinking.
And yeah, some Filipino parents encourage their kids to become “artistas” or celebrities (a step closer to becoming a power-tripping politico) because that’s the shortest way for them to become rich saving them the trouble of working and spending for their education and support while they day dream and fantasize of someday becoming like Dionisia Pacquiao who clowns around and basks under her son’s fame and fortune to fulfill her tacky scandalous whims.

During the live “Willing Willie” episode earlier, host Willie Revillame apologized to those offended by the March 12 episode that featured Jan-Jan Suan, the six-year-old contestant who danced akin to a male erotic dancer in the said primetime variety show.
Over accusations that what he and the show did to Jan-Jan constitutes to child abuse, Revillame said during tonight’s “Willing Willie” episode: “Hindi natin gagawin yan sa ating mga kababayan. Nandito po kami para magbigay ng saya at tulong at pagasa sa mga, kamukha ng mga batang ito. Hindi pa nangangarap e, sa hirap ng buhay. Poverty ang pinaguusapan dito, sa hirap ng buhay ho yan. Andito kami para magbigay ng saya.”
“Kung may offend kami, kung may offend ako, humihingi ako ng paumahin. I’m sorry. Pero ang importante dito ay nakita naming masaya ang pamilyang ito,” Revillame added.
According to Revillame, he did not know prior to the actual performance that Jan-Jan will dance for the talent portion of “Wiltime Bigtime.”
“Una sa lahat, hindi ko alam na ganun ang kanyang talent. Nalaman ko na lang yan dito na ho… Kaya akala ko, kakanta di ba?,” he said.
Revillame added: “Ang katotohanan nga nyan, ang kantang po na pinapagamit dyan, yung kanta po na ‘Careless Whsiper.’ And it’s a good thing yung staff namin very sensitive na hindi maganda sa bata na masyadong popular sa video yun. Ito yung gusto ng bata pala. Ito yung request e, sa audition pa lang.
One of the show’s major segments, “Wiltime Bigtime” requires its six contestants to perform a “talent” for the main quiz portion of the game. After the performance, Willie gives the contestant an additional cash prize, varying in amount. The “Willie Willie” host gave Jan-Jan 10,000 pesos for dancing to the tune of Dr. Dre’s “Next Episode.”
Willie also explained Jan-Jan cried because he saw former basketball player Bonel Balingit, who he said Jan-Jan thought was a giant. He said all contestants who auditioned and become contestants of the show had parental consent.
To public officials who criticized the said incident, Revillame said, “Dyusko naman, ang daming problema ng bansa. Ang amin nating problema, tulad ng mga bibitayin. Yung mga corrupt. Tapos ito, maliit na bagay na binastos ko raw yung bata… Wala pong ganun, at hindi ko gagawin yan.”
Earlier today, Department of Social Welfare and Development Dinky Soliman issued a statement condemning the “emotional abuse and humiliation bestowed” on Jan-Jan. Read related story.
“Willing Willie” executive producer Jay Montelibano earlier spoke to Yahoo! Southeast Asia and commented that the issue was blown out of proportion.
“It was really taken out of context. Sabi ko that time these people took it out of context. Pinalaki. They made a mountain out of a molehill. I really don’t know kasi some of them even in their own blogs even confessed that ‘I don’t really watch Willing Willie’ so sabi ko how can you gauge when you don’t watch? Sabi ko di ba you don’t even know where these people are coming from,” Jay said.
Jay added that the boy actually felt good after that particular episode was aired. “The YouTube video came out the day after [March 13]. In fact, pinag-usapan nga ng tao. Si Jan-Jan nga when we got to see him, talked to him sabi niya sikat na raw siya kasi ang daming bumabati sa kanya.”
Jan-Jan’s family explains
During Monday’s episode, Willie also brought back Jan-Jan and his family in order to clarify and explain the said incident.
According to Diana, Jan-Jan’s mother, Jan-Jan has been dancing ever since he was three-years-old.
Jan-Jan’s father, Jojo, explained the boy has been joining in school programs and mall contests.
“Yan din ang kanyang talent. Talagang lahat ng tao nagsisigawan talaga sa kanya. Kaya nung narinig ko na may pa-audition kayo… hindi ako nag-atubili na i-audition ko yung anak ko dito. Kagustuhan din naman ni Jan-Jan. Sabi nya, ‘papa, gusto ko pumunta nun at magaudition ako’,” Jojo said.
The particular dance the boy performed during the March 12 show, which featured talented kids aged from six to 12, was taught by Jan-Jan’s uncle, Jojo said.
He added that they merely wanted to support their child. “Syempre, gusto ng anak ko sumikat, gusto nya magartista, kaya yun ang ginawa nya para maiba sya at mapansin sya ng ibang tao,” he said.
” Ang masasabi ko lang, dun sa mga naninira at saka sa mga nag-ano sa Youtube, tigilan naman nila kasi hindi naman kagustuhan ng magulang na maging… kagustuhan ng anak ko yun na maipakita ang kanyang talent… Hindi kasalanan ng anak ko na maging ganun kasi yun ang pagkaalam nya, maganda ang ginagawa nya. At saka, marami po ang nagsasabi sa Youtube na ‘magaling ang anak mo’ at saka yung mga pinsan ko sa America, nagtetext sa akin. Talagang walang may nagsasabi na hindi maganda ang ginawa ang anak,” Jojo said.
Diana also rejects the notion that what happened was child abuse.
“Ang masasabi ko lang po, wag po naman po sila (magsabi) ng ganun. Kasi napakasakit sa magulang na sabihan na (na-chi-child abuse) yung anak ko dahil hindi naman po namin tinuturuan ng masama yung anak ko. Sana po maintindihan nyo na yung talent ng anak ko, ganun ko. Gusto lang po nya siguro mag-artista na maexpose sa mga tao kaya gusto nya rin po sana sumayaw o guminhawa po ang buhay namin.” she said.
Diana added, “Saka po sa mga ibang channel na… katulad po ng ‘Goin’ Bulilit.’ Bakit po ninyo hindi ninukwestiyon yung mga pinapagawa nyo sa show na yun at saka yung sa anak ko po yung kinukwestiyon nyo ng malaki… Wag nyo po sana masamain yung ginagawa ng anak ko.”
TV5 apologizes
Through an official statement, TV5 apologized for featuring Jan-Jan in the March 12 “Wiltime Bigtime” segment, which “viewers may have found offensive or in bad taste.”
The statement reads, “We wish to stress that there was never any intention to humiliate or abuse Jan-Jan or any contestant on the show.
“‘Willing Willie’ is a program that was conceptualized to bring joy and hope and shine the spotlight on ordinary Filipinos. The program aims to provide a venue for everyone to show their talents, tell their stories and make their dreams come true. This is the thrust of everyone involved in the program, particularly its host, Willie Revillame.”
Like what Willie said during the March 28 episode of the show, the statement further explained that Jan-Jan has been joining mall and school contests and that he cried because of the presence of Balingit. It added that Jan-Jan “appeared to be sad or even in tears, not because he was being forced to dance, but because he felt the dance was ‘serious’ and he was playing a role.”
“Again, TV5 and Wil Productions express profound regret for any insensitivity on their part, and wish to thank all those who have expressed concern. We are always grateful to be reminded of our obligations to the viewing public. In turn, we hope to make clear that the objective of the show has always been to bring joy and hope to Filipinos, whether they are participating on the show or viewing at home,” the statement ends.

Hindi na ito tungkol sa batang iyon. Wala akong pakialam kung “gusto” ng bata ang ginawa niya. In bad taste yun at malaswa ang ginalaw niya. Dapat mapatigil yan at maparusahan ang palabas ni Willie sa nangyari. Ito ay para sa proteksyon ng mga kabataang Pilipino. Hindi lang ang tatay ni JanJan ang may anak. Ang disenteng magulang ayaw ipagawa yun sa anak niya at ayaw ang mga anak nila na makakita ng ganun.

It’s better to be a human being than being a Pinoy. Hanga ako sa China when it comes to the implementation of their laws. Samantalang dito sa atin may palusot pa due to corruption, etc. Kung talagang may kasalanan, well that’s it. Either imprisonment or life penalty.

China is showing us what respect for the law should look like. They can tell that pinoys need to be taught a lesson or two about rule of law. And, don’t expect God to perform miracles for them, especially while pinoys still refuse to acknowledge their own shortcomings. God is not your homey. These pinoys took a risk and are now paying for it. They are not innocent. Why don’t they start praying for those whose young lives were being ruined, because, thanks to drug mules like them, kids are having more access to these drugs?

Vinz, I for one actually believe articles like this help the country. It provokes people to THINK. Readers are forced to question their values. Being aware of the one’s true state of being is the best way to evaluate on what you need to change in order to grow.

LOL…I can’t stop myself from laughing, they say that people who don’t want to see the truth will keep pretending to be blind. If we don’t try to correct the mistakes and the wrong things in our society, we will never develop and evolve into a mature society. We can’t pretend and go on as if nothing is wrong. We have to be critical on things like this because it will help us find ways on correcting them and perhaps turn things around. Your mentality is the kind of mentality most Filipinos would have, that of being apathetic and less motivated. I guess people here comment and react because we are very concerned and we care about the Philippines. Fact is, Willie and this kind of TV shows enforces the laziness of the Filipinos. Yes, this one episode seems to be a very insignificant case but we are not just talking about this one instance. Jan Jan is only one of the millions of poor kids in the Philippines who didn’t have any choice because they were a product of ignorant parents who only care about easy money at the expense of their kids. They are a perfect example of the common poor pinoys who hope that their kids will help them get rich one day. They taught the kid to dance like that so he can a shot a fame and be noticed. That’s very irresponsible parenting. Parents should help the children grow decently and instill proper values so that they can be productive citizens one day. They are not commodities which you can easy trade for cash. The worst part is that people in the Philippines accept this kind of travesty as normal. They even find it amusing that a little kid was asked to perform like a “macho dancer” several times. I can’t blame the people watching Willie’s TV show because they have been brainwashed by all sorts of media propaganda but the fact that some people felt disgust only shows that it’s not acceptable for some. It’s not about making a big issue out of a little incident or trying to make a big deal of a simple mistake but it’s about exposing the rotten attitude of most pinoys that makes our country remain stagnant and impoverished.

And please don’t chalk this up to a difference in opinion. It’s wrong, plain and simple. Sugarcoat all over it as much as you want, but at the end of the day it’s still effing blatantly wrong.
Heck, if you really do even get the gist of things, you should know that this was never a question of whether or not Willie, Jan Jan, his parents, or TV were wrong.

Willie Revillame’s own dirty mouth connected the child’s dance to “macho dancer” and “burlesque queen”. Willie himself said those words so he knew all along it was not an “innocent dance” that got “misconstrued”. It was a strip-dance and he made the kid do it over and over. When the kid was raised on a platform the crowd even simulated patrons of a strip club and was “reaching out” to “touch” him. It was a very disgusting scene.

Most of our traditions sucked and how the Second Aquino Administration gradually sucked when it comes to tourism. The “Wow Philippines” slogan is ok yet they managed to make their own with the failure that is “Pilipinas Kay Ganda”. And what happened? It was heavily criticized by most people. It’s “Pilipinas Kay Tanga” to be exact. And even are traditions were becoming bad habits if you ask me.
And since we are colonized by the Spaniards, we have a similar culture just like in the Latin American countries. It REALLY makes sense at all.

If we focus more on the positive things TOO MUCH, then it’s nothing more than a form of escapism. We must use the negative side in order to learn our mistakes. Unfortunately, most of Filipinos are like that. It’s better that we ACKNOWLEDGE the problem then FIX it.
Because what we see in the Philippines right now is more on the negative side but that’s harsh REALITY. Reality can be positive AND negative. Let’s not be just POSITIVE. Let’s be REAL sometimes.

The logic (or lack of it thereof) that they use to defend him reflects the poor thinking skills of our kababayan. They cannot say it was an innocent dance as Willie himsel used the words macho dancer and burlesque queen in allusion to it. Even if the father said it was OK, he does not speak for all the decent Filipino fathers who want their kids to be decent and be exposed to decency. Decent fathers do not want their kids to see what JanJan did (and the likes of him do) and they don’t like the idea of their kids doing that.

That was Vandolph when he was a kid back then. That dance he made was used for comedy purposes while Jan-Jan’s just used for mockery and a excuse for his aunt to get money.

OA? Srsly, are you guys for real?! Moral ambiguity is a serious issue–my god how far we’ve degenerated. I can’t believe people are swallowing the chicken**** explanations TV5 and its host and the family themselves are spewing. Reading the comments… grabe ang galit ko. Ang kikitid ng utak, men. Everyone was at fault here.
The uncle, for teaching the kid how to do that dance when he, as an adult, should have known better. I have to say, PEDOBEAR would be proud of that uncle.
The parents, for tolerating it when any NORMAL, THINKING, DECENT parent would have taught the kid it was wrong. Excuse me, shut up with the excuses on talent because you won’t see acts like that being taught on dancing schools.

seriously? i used to be proud too.in fact i hated those who criticized our country and our people..but here’s something learned: i am a fine arts major and of course i’d feel happy whenever my drawings were praised..sure i also got some criticisms from my professors and that made me feel bad but then it was a way of improving my technique i drawing so that i could get a higher grade..
bottomline? seeing what is wrong and accepting criticisms does not mean that you hate your country..i see it as a way of telling our people an the government to change..
anyway back to the topic: i hear that dinky soliman from dswd sent tv5 a letter about the incident

During the cleaner days of Philippine TV, especially Family Kuwarta o Kahon, we never see scantily-dressed dancing girls or kids doing such dances. Actually, this article proves that our society is going downhill.
