Lagman says Duterte’s promise of five executions daily is BS. Here’s why
Albay 1st district Rep. Edcel Lagman thinks that President Rodrigo Duterte’s aim of executing five death row convicts is just hyperbole, or simply not realistic.
First, the proposed restoration of death penalty must be approved by a Congress first. That in itself is not a sure thing, Lagman said in a DZBB interview Sunday (January 15).
And then there’s the possibility that Duterte might not even be the President anymore for the first actual execution.
“Wala yon. Yon ay isang hyperbole. Sapagkat hindi makikita ng ating pangulo ang unang execution kung ito ay ma-reimpose ang death penalty sapagkat may katagalan yan,” he said.
According to the opposition politiko, the local criminal justice system is so slow-paced that putting to death five convicts a day isn’t realistic.
That is a menacing hyperbole,” he added.
