The Roman Catholic Church, through its political arm the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, is obviously grooming and preparing Manny Pacquiao, now a Congressman, for the highest position in the Philippines, meaning the Presidency itself.
They finally see in Pacquiao the best possible puppy or lackey who is even as early as now already almost completely in their clerical pockets!
He has divested himself of his vices. He has "seen" this biblical "God." And may even have talked to "Him." Pacquiao is a grateful man. He credits this "God" with all of his phenomenal victories in the Ring, and probably also with all his other successes, for example his having easily won his seat as a Congressman.
If a wino and a degenerate like Joseph Erap Estrada could be elected President, Manny Pacquiao must easily be led to believe that he has at least a thousand better chances of winning that Position soon enough: He is certified clean by the Church. He is a man of God. He has universal name recognition. He has billions of pesos as well as dollars safely stashed away in banks [although he still needs to pay those millions of pesos in back taxes to the BIR].
As President, his closest advisers on Public Policy will be the bishops of the CBCP. But these bishops will take care to be as inconspicuous as possible. They will be "the real powers behind the throne."
With Pacquiao as the visible and malleable President, but with the CBCP as the real power behind the throne, what is there to keep the CBCP from getting the Philippines to morph into a de facto THEOCRACY?
