Basas to usher in ‘moment of triumph for truth, justice and accountability’

I too saw the television interviews of 90-year-old Sister Flory Basa and I was very much impressed with her fortitude because her statements damned impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona and his wife Cristina, a niece of hers.

Truly, Sister Flory could prove to be an explosive witness against Chief Justice Corona. Whether as a rebuttal witness of the prosecution or as resource person of the Senate, she should testify in Corona’s trial.

For sure, Corona’s lawyers would move heaven and earth to bar Sister Flory from testifying, but the technicalities they can be expected to raise should not be allowed by the Senate to get in the way of getting at the truth.

As a nun, Cristina’s aunt has no reason whatsoever to lie in affirming the oppression of the Basas by the Corona couple as detailed in an earlier interview by another of Sister Flory’s niece, Ana Basa.

These “oppressions” included the Coronas allegedly taking over the Basa-Guidote Enterprises Inc. (BGEI) and denying other Basa shareholders their share in the company, including the over P30-million proceeds in the sale of a property to the City of Manila. There’s also Ana’s fully corroborated revelation that Corona once threatened to kill an 83-year-old caretaker of BGEI.

The day that Sister Flory and Ana Basa are called by the Senate to take the witness stand would be a moment of triumph for truth, justice and accountability.
