Cleaning up this country once and for all

SURELY BUT LETS START FROM THE VERY TOP

How nice of Adolfo to appear reasonable and even handed and make a point by point attack on Conrad's article, then revealed his self absorbed verdict, fed as judiciously to anyone who would read, daily or several times a day, like a rosary recitation, BS Aquino is no good. Does Adolfo think he is good enough to replace Aquino? Is he angling for his job?

It is depressing to witness this fascination with EDSA type of rallies, not only in the media but also in these fora. EDSA I was an important instrument in helping effect a change, a long awaited change, and the whole world listened, and copied the movement, people power, had a nice ring to it. Filipinos felt empowered, and probably also surprised that it did work, without bloodshed. Having done it twice, how about a third and fourth time, better still, how about anytime we don't like somebody in office? Sorry, but you have now diluted, altered and trivialized the brand name, and that seems to be par for the course.

There used to be 6 medical schools in the Philippines, graduates were treated as equals in the US and all we needed was pass the ECFMG to be admitted to an internship and residency, and we came by the thousands to fill the need here in the US. Then came the proliferation of medical schools in the country, many established by unscrupulous operators, many graduates not being able to pass the basic requirements for medical licensure, and many came working in the medical field, not as doctors. Today, we have the uninformed comedians making fun of Filipino Medical graduates, lumping them altogether, the bad apples with the good ones, the brand name has changed.

Today EDSA is nothing but an abbreviation of its name. What better illustration than the EDSA III wannabe of Trillanes & Co. in 2007. My wife and I were caught in the tragi-comedy while shopping at the Glorietta Mall across the Peninsula Hotel. It took us several hours to get home from all the confusion from the show. Our philosopher taxi driver finally summarized it to us, "it's all Hollywood sir, like Clint Eastwood" True enough, when we went to the Peninsula Hotel the following night, Imelda Marcos was a few tables from us, while we were taking a snack, the gunshot holes covered by a large Christmas tree and business as usual in the hotel, the props and actors have gone.

Benigno Aquino III is barely over 1 1/2 years in office and here we have calls for an EDSA people power change, both for Aquino and the Supreme Court, based on the Spinmeister's on both sides. Are we really advocating mob rule, in the country? In all honesty, what appropriate name to characterize in what state our country is in. The country has been ruled for decades by "mobsters" like the mafias in the US and elections are but a ruly change in the administration with a different family, like the Bonano family to the Genovese family. Now, we also have the Power of the Mob, to unseat the mobsters before their fill is up, how unhospitable. We are cheering that a million or so of loud mouths against the backdrop of a hundred million Filipinos shall prevail, then why even bother to vote or even have an election? People Power is all we need!! But which people are we talking about, the Manila Mob? How about if we have more people in the Cebu Mob? are they more legitimate, if they are able to muster more than Manila?

Despots have taken notice too, and have prepared their various ways of dealing with "people power" Mubarak, Qaddafi, Assad and Ahmedinajad, the first two are out, one feet first, in a box, the other stewing in the can awaiting trial. Assad and Ahmedinajad are hanging tough, killing as many as they need to stay in power. Does the Filipino "mobsters" have the stomach for a made for TV massacre? I wonder, but they do it in secret, anonymously.

P'Noy, whether you like his style or not has embarked on a mission to fight graft and corruption as a center piece of his administration, what better way than to start at the top of the judiciary, the leadership of which is an interloper, placed there with obvious intentions of subverting justice. Does P'Noy have clean hands? Is he part of the families in "Mafialand" , obviously he is. The big question is, is he a born again "mobster" who has seen the light? Answers to that have to wait until he has done, or shown progress that he is on the way to accomplishing his promise. Meanwhile Adolfo, from the ranks of your classified idiots, enough of these daily barrage of nonsense from you, unless you promise to behave and just exhibit some semblance of fair mindedness in your posts worthy of your position.
