Presidential Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo scoffed at Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s latest attack on President Rodrigo Duterte as a “rehash” of his “discredited” expose during the 2016 election campaign.
Panelo said that Trillanes should resign immediately as senator because he has no evidence to prove his claim that Duterte amassed P2.4 billion in unexplained wealth stashed in secret deposit accounts from 2006 to 2015.
To disprove Trillanes’ allegation last May, the Duterte camp showed an official statement from BPI which showed that the former Davao City mayor only had a balance amounting to P17,668, as of March 2015 which increased to P27,024.09 by April 2015.
Trillanes said he would step down as senator if Duterte provided proof that he doesn’t have billions nor does he have secret bank accounts.
“Magresign na siya! Iyang mga sinasabing dokumento na pinapakita niya sa BPI (Bank of the Philippine Islands), sabi ng BPI fake yan. Walang bago dyan,” said Panelo in an interview with DZMM’s Ted Failon.
“When you lie in one, you lie in all. Di kapanipaniwala kapag nagsisinungaling ka. They are trying very hard,” Panelo added.
