Aguirre tags Jamby, Laguna congresswoman in P100M bribe try

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre on Friday tagged former senator Jamby Madrigal, Laguna representative Marlyn "Len" Alonte-Naguiat, and Atty. Alvin Herrera as the people who offered P100 million to high-profile inmates to recant their testimonies against Senator Leila De Lima.

"Inalok po nila yung walong iyan (na nag-witness against De Lima) for P100 million basta gawin nila yung pagbawi, yung retraction ng mga salaysay nila laban kay De Lima before bukas February 25 which is the EDSA anniversary," Aguirre said in an interview on DZMM.

(They offered the eight witnesses for P100 million so that they would retract their testimonies against De Lima before February 25 which is the EDSA anniversary.)

The justice chief cited sources as saying De Lima's allies were planning to use the expected retraction of statements to lure people to join another People Power movement against the government.

"'Pag nagkaroon sila ng People Power revolution ay palalayain sila, lahat ng mga high profile inmates. Yan ang pangako nila," Aguirre alleged.

(If there will be a People Power revolution the high profile inmateas will be freed from jail. That was their promise.)

Aguirre said Madrigal's party got in touch with the high-profile inmates through Lalaine Madrigal Martines, the former senator's cousin and wife of kidnapper Noel Martines.

The information was leaked after Alonte spoke to the inmates via speaker phone, Aguirre said.

DZMM tried to get the side of Madrigal, but her aide said the former senator is currently in Europe.

Meantime, Aguirre said Lalaine Madrigal Martines' car was ambushed early Friday morning by unknown assailants.

Authorities have yet to establish details of the case.
