Senator Leila de Lima on Tuesday asked for a “safe and secure” detention center if and when she is arrested over drug-related charges, as she expressed fear that she might end up just another number in extrajudicial killing (EJK) cases.

“Ang pakiusap ko lang, kung sakali nga mangyari na — God forbid — yung eventuality na yan, sana ilagay ako sa lugar na magiging safe and secure ako,” De Lima said.

“Kasi marami nang nangyayari, marami nang pinapapatay sa loob ng selda. So what is another EJK?” said De Lima, who initiated a Senate probe on the spate of drug-related killings under the Duterte administration.

De Lima said she will not resist arrest if and when that happens, as she maintained innocence on the charges of being a drug protector and coddler.

“I cannot physically resist. I am morally and psychologically resisting it because I’m innocent. What can I do? Hindi ako tatakas. Hindi ako magtatago. Hindi ako pupunta ng ospital. Hindi ako magwi-wheelchair,” she said.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II earlier said the resolution on the five cases filed against De Lima will be out within the week.

De Lima also welcomed her supporters called “Every Woman” at the Senate on Tuesday.

Among those present are former Civil Service Commission (CSC) chair Karina David, former Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chair Etta Rosales, former peace process adviser Teresita “Ging” Deles, and former chair of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, Imelda Nicolas.

In a statement, the group said the charges against De Lima are “concocted” to attack the senator for exposing the EJKs in Davao City where President Rodrigo Duterte served as mayor for many terms. De Lima is a former CHR said.

“We are women standing by Senator De Lima and calling on all fair-minded Filipinos to uphold truth and justice and dignity of women,” they said.

“Let us not allow the manipulation of systems that should have been dispensed fairly. No to the arrest of Senator Leila de Lima,” the group added. —KBK, GMA News
