NOW IT CAN BE TOLD AGAIN and AGAIN

Mike FW Waldorf

Maria Ressa of Rappler is just one among Pierre Omidyar's propagandists of a NEOLIBERAL IDEOLOGY.

By following neoliberalism's policy model, Rappler as a private media entity seeks to transfer control of economic factors to the private sector from the public sector. That is how neoliberals wanted to work; to be able to take control of every government of the world.

Omidyar owned companies which include Rappler (based in the Philippines and in Indonesia) pursue a free-market capitalism and away from government spending, regulation, and public ownership.

Now, this brings us back to the very reason why Maria Ressa's company got into trouble with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bureau of Internal Review (BIR) in the Philippines. It is not about government stifling Maria Ressa's PRESS FREEDOM but it is simply because of Maria Ressa's intent of pursuing the neoliberal policy model for OMIDYAR NETWORK'S gain.

It would be recalled that, for instance, in 2016 vice presidential candidate Francis Escudero was open to welcoming Rupert Murdoch (neoliberal business mogul) to buy Philippine media and basically have ownership on it despite certain constitutional restrictions as stipulated in the 1987 Philippine constitution. Why did Escudero welcome such? A left leaning public official would most likely favor the entry of investors like Rupert Murdoch.

Back to Omidyar. How does his network operate by the way?

Omidyar Network does what is called "impact investing" and a "property rights" initiatives. An example could be gleaned on how Maria Ressa was groomed to become one of Omidyar's formidable media influencer in the Asia-Pacific region. For example, Maria Ressa, originally a foreigner (American citizen) invested in the Philippines by first, establishing her own company and in order to cement her "property rights" initiative did prove to the Philippine government that she, indeed, is a Filipino citizen by acquiring dual citizenship way back in 2004 and is therefore entitled to own a company that is operating in and out of the country.

Based on Maria Ressa's background, being born in Manila and was alleged to be of Indonesian parents and a migrant in the U.S. at a very young age, she is a perfect candidate to be fielded by her boss in the Southeast Asian region.

Omidyar network is U.S. based with offices in Washington and in Silicon Valley. Outside the U.S. its influence propagates through its foreign funded media outlets that are spread out across the globe namely:

1) Ukraine’s Hromadske
2) Indonesian and Philippines-based Rappler;
3) Magambe Network In Zimbabwe, where the Omidyar Network supports a series of oppositional youth organizing initiatives;
4) mySociety in the Shoreditch area of London, United Kingdom;
5) Ushahidi in Kenya and
6) Janaagraha in India

Both 1 & 2 have been participating in a pro-Western information warfare-style campaigns against rogue governments.

Well, that is how they describe governments who would question their devious activities. Simply rogue ones like the Philippine government of president Duterte who is enjoying high popularity rating. Rogue governments (in their own understanding) are actually threats to their existence as neoliberalists. And it so happened, Trump of the United States, Putin of Russia, Xi Jinping of China, Bashar al-Assad of Syria are examples of those populist leaders they deemed not fit for neoliberal policy model. This makes them targets for any form of destabilization.

Omidyar Network also begins to expand the geographic focus of its Government Transparency practice to include: Poland, Turkey and Ukraine in Europe; Brazil and Mexico in Latin America; Egypt in the Middle East; and Indonesia and the Philippines in Southeast Asia. The initiative will continue to focus efforts in the United States, India, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa in sub-Saharan Africa and the United Kingdom.
