DFA rescues 5 Pinays from China sex den

By Erwin Tulfo

GOOD LUCK like went the way of five young women recruited for factory jobs in China but ended up working for a white slavery syndicate there.

Acting on my request for assistance, coursed through Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesman Raul Hernandez, Philippine Consulate and Chinese authorities rescued the victims from the sex den in Guangzhou near Xiamen.

The lasses from Davao City, including a 16-year old, were recruited by a town mate, and then introduced toa Chinese contact.

The recruiters turned out to be human traffickers.

The victims’ relatives sought my assistance at the TV5 Aksyon Center at Mother Ignacia St., South Triangle, Quezon City on Nov. 25.

We, then, brought the case to the attention of DFA spokesperson Raul Hernandez, who promptly contacted the Philippine Consulate in Xiamen with the address and cell phone numbers of the victims.

With the assistance of the Guangzhou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau of Fujian, China, the rescue operation was set up.

Philippine Consul-General Adel Cruz phoned one of the victims and instructed her to leave the apartment immediately, along with four other companions to a nearby KFC restaurant.

Shortly thereafter, the Filipino and Chinese authorities took custody of the five Filipino girls.

Further, the Chinese authorities and Philippine consulate officials, backed by local policemen, entered the apartment where five other Filipinos were staying.

Two Chinese nationals and one Filipina, said to be the wife of one of the Chinese, were apprehended, police authorities interrogated the Filipinos involved, after which they were brought to Xiamen for the repatriation process.

Kudos to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) headed by Sec. Albert Del Rosario!!!

[Editor’s note: If this Guangzhou is near Xiamen, in Fujian province, it must not be confused with its namesake Guangzhou, formerly more popularly known to non-Chinese as Canton, the capital and largest city of Guangdong province and one of China’s five foremost “national central cities.” National central cities are cities tasked to lead in urbanization by developing and implementing political, economc and cultural programs that are to be models for other cities.]
