I, AS A WISHFUL THINKER AND THE TRUTH (commission)

To begin with, I would like to point out here, to avoid misunderstanding, that I read our KOR Constitution and By-Laws and I practically dissected every word of it.

How I wish our KOR Global Organization think of amending our constitution and by-laws to suit the demands of this generation like, for instance, authorizing all KOR Regions to elect their own set of officers, from Regional Commanders down the last officer in the echelon, instead of the Supreme Council doing it for them. The KOR members of every region are better informed, not only on matters of qualifications of candidates but, more importantly, on the PERFORMANCE & LEADERSHIP shown by the aspiring KOR members.

Our Canada Regional Council, in its last meeting in April, 2010, at the residence of Sir Dr. Tom Virey, KGOR, unanimously approved a resolution authorizing our beloved and most respected Regional Commander, SIR EMILIANO SILVERIO, KGCR, to officially nominate three outstanding gentlemen to the position of the next Canada Regional Commander, to wit: (1) Sir Dr.(Honoris Causa or honorary, Doctor of Laws, no thesis required) Chito Collantes KGOR; (2) Sir George Poblete, KGOR; and (3) Sir Dr. Tom Virey, KGOR (alphabetically enumerated, to be fair). My biggest question now is how many KOR Chapters has each one of them have put up or organized during all these years? The answer is simple: Sir Dr. Chito Collantes, practically all of them, from coast to coast. Who, among them spent, not only his precious time, but even his own money, traveling miles and miles away just to meet people, chose community leaders, convinced them to join our movement and came back later on to initiate them all? Answer: Sir Dr. Chito, the action man of this great organization. Who among them has painstakingly and religiously ordered, year in and year out, all the much-needed materials like uniforms, medals and other paraphernalia for our brother knights? Answer: Sir Dr. Chito Collantes, the most maligned ,but remain steadfast in his mission to propagate the teachings of our idol, our National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. When some dignitaries visit Canada and our movement needs to be represented, who has always been with our Canada Regional Commander, Sir Camiling Silverio, KGCR? Exactly the same answer: Sir Dr. Chito Collantes, KGOR. When attending KOR Assemblies, be it international or regional, who has always been beside our well-loved Canada Regional Commander, Sir Emiliano Silverio, KGCR and actively helping out our fellow knights belongong to the host organization? As usual, our energetic Sir Dr. Chito Collantes, KGOR. Yes, I know he is not perfect, and nobody is, most especially in his case where he has been a target of business competitors who resort to all sorts of things like, mud-slinging and black propaganda just to put him out of business. I am also fully aware that sometimes he forgets to be a little diplomatic in dealing with his comrades. But I have been trying to understand him. I Know, deep in my heart, that he just wants things done as fast and as accurate as possible. He, at times, becomes short of patience. Also, I am fully aware now of two cases he has been charged of in Philippine courts that have been pending, cases arising from his business brought forth by dissatisfied clients who misrepresented themselves in the course of their preliminary interview for immigration to Canada purposes. They expected a full refund of the money they paid when their applications were declined. They resorted to blackmailing our hardworking brother when the latter would not give in to their demands for refund of the fees they paid relative to their applications which were declined by Canadian authorities. Our colleague gave them full disclosures of what would happen if their applications would be denied, but they still pretended not to understand the possible consequences if they misrepresent themselves. As Good Samaritans, we, as brothers, should not condemn our fellow knights even before he is found guilty of the charges against him. How about if, later on, the cases were dismissed. That's too aggravating to swallow. Let's give him a chance and, if ever he would be appointed as our next Regional Commander for Canada and turned out later on that he is guilty of the charges, then and only then can we justify ourselves to demand for his ouster, not only as our Regional Commander, but also as KOR member. All these summations refer to my endorsement of our hardworking nominee for the position of Canada Regional Commander, SIR DR. CHITO COLLANTES, KGOR.

Ralph Bunag

Sir Ralph,

How I completely agree with your first two sentences. We have been advocating this for many years in Europe, unfortunately without acknowledgement, acceptance, agreement or appropriate action. At least a proposal at an Annual Assembly for open discussion and decision on the matter would have been a brave, great, democratic and quite Rizalian step to take. We live in hope that with our excellent new Supreme Commander and an iconic new President installed in Manila that a new dawn may be about to arise for us all. In Europe we have been consistently ignored and have had the required consultation process regarding recommendations for appointments to Regional Officership positions completely ignored.

However, what quite surprises me is your sentence at the beginning of your second paragraph. I cannot understand why your Regional Council would, or would need, to pass such a resolution. This is quite unnecessary, as Article VII, Section 10 of our Bye Laws(as amended) already lays down the procedure that must be followed by Regional Commanders when they are selecting and submitting nominations for Regional Officer positions. They are* required* to consult with their Deputy, Area and Chapter Commanders in these matters.

I am also quite intrigued that you would give such a detailed and most unusual description of the putative PhD of Sir Chito Collantes but no such details for Sir Tom Virey. Perhaps you might advise when, and by which University, this honorary doctorate was awarded.

Non Omnis Moriar.*

Yours Fraternally,

Sir Don Brennock, KCR,
Dublin
