A Philippines That Simply Can’t

A #Philippines That Simply Can’t
A Philippines that can’t think itself out of a paper bag – that’s what we have. The deeper implication however is that the people who reside in this paradise lost can’t think themselves out of a paper bag.
Thinking becomes more important as people are bombarded with seemingly myriad issues in transportation (MRT, road congestion), energy (emergency powers, high cost), taxation (tax increases, BIR resistance to tax exemptions and reductions), government spending (discretionary and non-discretionary spending), war mongering (in China and the Middle East), corruption (PDAF and useless Senate probes), and farcical elections.
All of these myriad issues have grown because Filipinos simply don’t want to take responsibility for their own lives. They don’t want to take responsibility for their own lives because they are afraid to take responsibility for their own failure – and are afraid of failure. Government then becomes an quick and easy scapegoat.
By turning over portions of our income to government and letting government do the thinking (instead of us) and then blaming government for not delivering is quite convenient.
I think we should be way past the debate on whether government messes things up or not – because it always does. The question now is what are we going to do about it?
Debating therefore whether government functionaries are corrupt, were corrupt, will become corrupt is nonsense because government’s very nature itself is timelessly corrupt.
It is ridiculous that we have a a minority who think that individuals can’t be trusted to run their own lives and yet these same minority thinks, that their clique of a few chosen individuals can run millions of lives!
If there is any political action that is needed – it is one that restores the power of Filipinos to run their own lives.
At this point in time, Filipinos should be discussing how to nullify the useless regulations and taxes passed by Congress, how to downsize government and eliminate government agencies – and remove their intervention in the economy – not on how they can be better tax slaves of a criminal government.
It does not matter whether you vote LP or NP or whatever Frankenstein political party will be cobbled – the taxes and regulations will remain to plunder your income.
We need to break the illusion that voting brings about change.
If we really want change – then do not legitimize government at all – do not vote.
Do not let your vote be used as an excuse for government to steal from you and your neighbor.
The day Filipinos realize that politics will never solve an economic problem will be the day that we will see a Philippines that can.
Till then, expect a Philippines that can’t!
