Fellow Rizalists, Knights
Which occasion is the best time to honor Dr. Rizal, is it.DECEMBER 30, JUNE 12 or JUNE19
While I find it difficult to take sides as to whether December 30th , June 12th or June 19 deems significant to hold national celebration significant honoring Dr. Jose Rizal, I find myself more inclined to favor June 19th for obvious historic reasons.
If Voltaire fed the French peasant storming the Bastille, Rizal did the same at Pugad Lawin. While I find Rizal an enigma, "shamefully distancing himself from the Katipunan even calling Bonifacio's Katipunan revolt to be “absurd” I had to agree with the Spanish authorities assessment that the Revolt of the Masses of Bonifacio that gave birth to Aguinaldo’s Cavite revolution, the logical continuum of an on-coming national conflagration, culminating to the June 12th declaration of Independence in Kawit, Cavite.
In the eyes of the Spanish government Rizal was the man behind the disturbances in Manila and Luzon neighboring provinces.
If that is a convincing argument, I can picture the Spanish Authorities telling, “it is true Rizal did not like what Bonifacio did, organizing violent organization to gain independence but it was HIM who fed and nourished the idea of independence! The closeness of June 12th the birth of the FIRST Philippine Republic and June 19th the birth of the architect of Philippine independence should be given consideration and no other else.
