House Bill will Force Foreign Artists to Subsidize Ampaw Pinoy Performers

House Bill will Force Foreign Artists to Subsidize Ampaw Pinoy Performers
I read recently that there is a bill filed in the house that seeks to require foreign performers in the Philippines to pay equity to compensate the loss of income of local performers due to the absence of audience and sponsors.
This in a nutshell captures everything that’s wrong with the Filipino way of doing business – whether they are local performers or local magnates in retail, telecom, real estate, energy, transportation, agriculture, manufacturing, finance, and health.
However, allow me to zero in on this specific instance of this eggheaded regulation which does not serve Filipino consumers at all.
This ampaw Pinoy artists are leeches, parasites that only raise the cost of tickets for Filipino audiences. It’s already bad enough that these so-called local “artists” come up with tired crappy shows – they make it worse by making Filipino consumers pay for services that these “artists” did not render at all.
In my book – these pinoy artists should be appropriately identified as “SCAM ARTISTS”
Pinoy consumers should not be punished for choosing to spend their hard earned entertainment money on foreign artists.
If Pinoy artists want to increase their income – they should produce entertainment that people would like to see and pay for.
As far as I’m concerned – except for a talented few – what mainstream Pinoy media passes off as artists are street hawkers with pretty faces – and at best, village idiots. So frankly, anyone who has got money to spend, and who understands the value of their money will not spend a penny on these “artists” that offer nothing but some skin, slapstick, and lots of fluff – for short, ampaw.
Between spending my money on an off-key local artist singing a cover versus the original foreign artist rendering an original, here’s what I think. That local artist will be there all the time, the foreign artist will be here very rarely – so I may actually save up to see the foreign artist. After all, I have already seen the local artists – this time around, I want to see the original artist whom the locals try to emulate so hard.
For short, I’ve had enough of Prada knock offs from Divisoria – I have saved up for the real deal – and I am being punished for wanting the real deal?
What the frack is wrong with Pinoy artists – they feel the world owes them a living!
A lot of these comes from the leftists and nationalists who want to have a “Filipino” culture. But really, who are they to impose their brand of culture on the rest of us.
Culture at present is viewed as an outcome of learned behavior patterns which are characteristic of a society’s members. It’s original meaning was the cultivation of the soul or mind.
Cultures are internally affected by the forces of change and the forces resisting change. The dynamic interaction of these forces leads to innovation and growth. Restricting the interaction restricts creativity and progress.
Pushing legislation that punishes Filipino consumers for choosing entertainment that is not aligned with the notion of “Filipino-ness” as defined by the local artists is an outrage.
Pinoy local performers don’t have a monopoly on shaping Filipino culture because his is a job of audiences and artists alike.
Artists who are not able to generate revenue with their acts should seriously consider shifting careers if they cannot reinvent themselves – much like Larry Git R Done, the Cable Guy reinvented himself.
Cultural Fascism
The influx of foreign artists indicates that Filipino consumers are willing to reward exceptional value.
Instead of jumping on the foreign artists and using the law for extortion – local Pinoy performers should stop force feeding us with their nationalist bullshit agenda – and should instead step up to the challenge and come up with more worthwhile entertainment fare instead of the usual Filipino freaks which fill up the Pinoy boob tube.
People are tired of watching flamboyant transvestites on Philippine TV – and should not be fined for choosing otherwise.
Enough of the ka-ampawan.
