Figure skating is a beautiful sport where skaters glide across the ice executing moves we cannot imagine doing ourselves. Everyone else might look like Bambi slipping and sliding around on ice, but figure skaters have such finesse and grace.
These athletes are able to perform breathtaking routines that leave the audience speechless in wonder. When French figure skaters Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres teamed up to vie for first place in the International Skating Union’s World Team Trophy 2017 competition in Japan, they blew away the competition and left fans marveling at their routine.
The duo have developed a bond on the ice that allows Vanessa to completely trust Morgan when he is flipping and spinning her around. The two are able to incorporate amazing partner work in their routines because of this.
For the competition in Japan, they skated to Disturbed’s rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s classic hit “The Sound of Silence.” Their synchronized skating and perfectly performed stunts matched magically to the music.
The audience is visible in the background and seem to be captivated by their routine. Hopefully the judges feel the same way!
The mellow, almost eerie song coupled with their all black costumes lend a melancholy feel to what actually is a vibrant and stunning ice skating routine. Their initial spinning jump is executed perfectly in tandem.
Judges score based upon how precise the different moves are completed and these two really hit the high mark. Their routine is seamless and simply captivating.
Morgan throws Vanessa up in the air as if she's the weight of a feather. She lands back down on the ice on her thin blades so effortlessly.
Pay particularly close attention to their astounding routine in the video below at the 1:50 mark, which is when Vanessa and Morgan do something that will leave you simply stunned. You will be on the edge of your seat with baited breath, waiting for her to land safely and score big points with their routine.
In fact, the audience was so impressed that everyone gave the duo a standing ovation at the end. We have to agree, it's incredible.
