#CocoyGate: The Amazing Issues On-and-Off Switch used by Yellowtard ‘thought leaders’!

It is hardly surprising that the very same “fake news” that the Philippine Opposition had been screeching about over the last several months has suddenly become a non-issue. Selective “activism”, after all, is a Yellowtard expertise. Indeed, the list of “non-issues” kept by the Opposition (led by the Liberal Party, a.k.a. the “Yellowtards”) is growing. As far as the LP are concerned, issues of national consequence can be selectively switched on and off depending on who is involved. This amazing on-and-off switch has been used many times by the Yellowtards over many years. Some examples of recent use of this amazing app follows.
First is “human rights” which became a non-issue back in 2011 when former President Gloria Arroyo was summarily banned from seeking medical treatment abroad by then Justice Secretary Leila De Lima. De Lima had, in doing so, defied a temporary restraining order issued by the Supreme Court on the travel ban against Arroyo.
Second was the issue of pork barrel thievery which became a non-issue to the Yellowtards when their god, former President Benigno Simeon ‘BS’ Aquino III, moved billions of pesos through a greased administrative oxymoron engineered by his then Budget Secretary Butch Abad called the “Disbursement Acceleration Program” (DAP) into the pockets of “cooperative” senators and House representatives.
Third is the issue of electoral fraud, which became a non-issue to them in three instalments, first when it began to look like Liberal Party candidates Mar Roxas and Leni Roberedo were losing in the 2016 presidential elections. Suffice to say (without going much into detail), the LP moved heaven and earth to grab that much-needed “win” to keep their empire in power. It seemed then that only the small margin between now-“vice president” Leni Robredo and then VP candidate Bongbong Marcos saved the day for them. The second instalment came when the LP violated a Commission on Elections (COMELEC) rule in 2016 that required candidates to file a Statement of Contributions and Expenditures within 30 days of the day of election. The LP had failed to comply with this rule and, by all intents and purposes pursuant to the COMELEC guidelines, all LP candidates would have been disqualified. Again, all the LP honchos needed to do was shrug and issue that familiar rhetorical question: What are we in power for? The rest is history and Robredo is seen by some to be the Philippines’ “vice president” today.
The third instalment in the devolvement of electoral fraud into non-issue oblivion is, of course, the unmentionable scandal surrounding the COMELEC Chairman himself, Andres Bautista. Like magic, the Bautista issue and its implications on the integrity of past elections has disappeared from “mainstream” (a.k.a. “disente”) chatter.
Today, another amazing issues disappearing act: “Fake News” is no longer the favourite shrill topic of Philippine Big Corporate Media. The relegation of “fake news” into the current list of “non-issues” is, of course, a non-surprise, what with the prime person of interest, (also an amazing disappearing act according to emerging reports of disappearing HTML code and LinkedIn profiles) being a key honcho in the Liberal Party.
What does that say about Big Corporate Media? Well, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 30 years, the answer to that question is also a non-surprise. “Fake news” after all is only “evil” when its purveyors are non-liberals — according to liberal media. So the logic of liberals’ media bots holds today: IF “Fake News” = liberal-produced, THEN “Fake News” = Non-Issue. It’s simple, really.
