Will President Noynoy Aquino go down in history as a good president?

November 2, 2015
by benign0
Probably not. For the essential and even critical problems that have beset the Philippines for decades, there was hardly any change that came out over the last six years under his watch. Why? The answer is quite simple:
President BS Aquino did not try hard enough.
noynoy_aquino_3029
Consider the manner with which BS Aquino’s fans lauded him when he did what was regarded as an impossibility back in 2012: impeach a currently-seated Supreme Court Chief Justice. The fact that he did the “impossible” in that instance proves that where there is political will, there is a way. Indeed, President BS Aquino moved heaven and earth — including lots of the nation’s “unspent budget” — to get the job done. He made like a bulldozer to flatten Constitutional impediments to this will and put rockets up congressmen’s arses to ensure they voted “favourably” for his pet “impeachment complaint” against then Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Using that astounding display of political will as the benchmark for outstanding achievement, it is easy to see now that the stuff where BS Aquino fails lies squarely within the domains where his care factor is zero. He did not have the political will to resolve the murder of his own father. Did not have the political will to fix up the police even after their incompetence cost the lives of nine Hong Kong tourists back in 2010. Did not have the political will to fix the public transport mess. Did not have the political will to sufficiently prepare for deadly typhoons.
What he did have political will for was to sell off a chunk of Mindanao to terrorists and a belligerent ASEAN “ally” even at the needless cost of 44 Special Action Force troopers’ lives. He had the political will to insulate his feudal clan’s family jewels at the Hacienda Luisita from agrarian reform. Had the political will to protect his buddies in the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Department of Transport and Communications (DOTC), and the Chief of the Philippine National Police from accountability for their idiocies. True enough, today, because of his familial and friendly ties with the line of accountability traceable to all the crooked activities going on at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), it is also likely that the bullet-planting scandal that is gripping the nation will go unresolved as well.
President BS Aquino, quite simply, over-promised and under-delivered.
BS Aquino promised Daang Matuwid and, instead, Filipinos got Daang MatuwAd. Thanks to this reversal of slogans, the Philippines did, indeed, get it repeatedly from behind over the last 6 years — from Mother Nature, from Islamic Terrorists, from Kuala Lumpur, and from Beijing among many others queued up for a shot to get so far up da Pinas’s behind, they could see the sunshine coming through the gaping nganga of its no-results president.
Perhaps it is fitting that Philippine President Benigno Simeon ‘BS’ Aquino III served the full six-year term of his presidency and was not impeached for his crimes nor driven to resign on account of his personal lack of tolerance for criticism. That way, he will serve as a lesson to generations of Filipinos to come — that when you opt to elect the most incompetent and most reluctant amongst a line-up of highly-qualified candidates, you reap what you sow.
Then again I wouldn’t be too hopeful. Filipinos simply lack an ability to learn. The evidence is all over the Philippines. The country is a vast 7107-island monument to a people who like doing the same things over and over again while praying for different results year in and year out.

Noynoy Aquino gov’t helpless and useless at stopping crooks behind bullet planting at NAIA

The Philippines’ reputation with the international community has suffered yet another blow. The news that security personnel at the Manila international airport have been putting bullets in the luggage of travellers in order to extort them has made it to international news. The incompetence of the Philippine government under the leadership of President Benigno Simeon Aquino has been exposed once again.
President BS Aquino: Crime rates soar whenever leaders are perceived to be weak.
President BS Aquino: Crime rates soar whenever leaders are perceived to be weak.
Authorities can’t give assurance that the culprits behind the criminal activities have been caught and are under arrest. Instead, the office of the President has downplayed the criminal activity by saying that the “incidents are only few”. That statement also proves that the incumbent leader is insensitive to and uncaring about the plight of the affected people especially the overseas contract workers who are scared they will be targeted when they visit the country.
The sad part is, this operation targets anyone, even weary elderly women. This is an indication that those running the syndicate are behaving like dumb and dumber. If they had any sense at all, they would choose their victims wisely – people who actually look like terrorists and not someone who looks like the average grandma. Frankly, a terrorist can look like anyone but a real terrorist would not be stupid enough to carry a single bullet or two without the proper gun to load it with. And if the syndicates were smart, they would use different illegal items to plant inside the unsuspecting passengers and not stick with using bullets. Goes to show that the members of the syndicate have access to a supply of ammunition.
Yes, the syndicate appears to be getting desperate for money. In a news report, the wife of a deceased former member of the syndicate has revealed that this extortion racket has been going on for 20 years but it’s only lately that those involved have become brazen. Someone said that perhaps their brazenness has something to do with the “ber” months. It’s almost Christmas so they could be running out of time to study their “random” victims well enough to pass the likely “suspect” test.
It seems the members of the syndicate could also have become bolder under the BS Aquino government because they see that the current government is weak. They also know that BS Aquino will not do anything drastic because the General Manager of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), retired Brig. General Jose Angel Honrado, is related to the President and transport Secretary Jun Abaya, who was instructed to “probe” the tanim bala or bullet planting racket is also a friend of BS Aquino. We already know what’s going to happen next: the case will be swept under the carpet. The perpetrators will probably get transferred quietly somewhere and not even receive a slap on the wrist.
cynthia_patag
What’s also quite baffling are the attitudes of BS Aquino’s most rabid supporters Leah Navarro and Cynthia Patag. Despite the shocking events, they are pointing to the President’s opposition and calling the incidents as mere demolition jobs against BS Aquino. They seem to be insinuating that the scammers and victims are mere actors hired to help make BS Aquino look bad. Some were outraged at Navarro’s and Patag’s behavior because instead of uniting with the people to demand action from the government,
leah_navarro
they were quick to come to its defense even in the absence of the result of the investigation. No wonder Philippine society has remained divided. Filipinos like Navarro and Patag who have strong followings keep spewing irrational views that do not help the Philippines reach its potential.

The BS Aquino government is making the lives of travellers to the Philippines more hellish than it already is. Not only do travellers to the Philippines have to bear with the world’s worst airport, they also have to contend with a fear of being extorted for money or being locked-up for carrying illegal items that they didn’t pack themselves.
It looks like Filipinos will have to protect themselves from their government because it cannot be trusted to protect them. The situation is going from bad to worse and this is all because criminals know that the country’s current leader is hopeless and useless in stopping them.

Travellers wary of rampant bullet-planting scams in the Philippines’ Ninoy Aquino International Airport!

November 1, 2015

The Philippines’ latest national embarrassment — the bullet-planting scamming that is gripping the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) — has many people on-edge. The modus operandi of this recently-publicised racket making the rounds in social media involves bullets being inserted in travellers’ luggage and then “discovered” by airport officials who then give the victims the option of paying a “fine” on-the-spot (wink-wink) or face arrest.

The thing that seems to escape the sensibilities of petty crooks in the Philippines is that criminal fads like this, when done indiscriminately frequently enough, eventually get exposed and cracked down upon. It’s the criminal world’s equivalent of business fads like the lechon manok (roasted chicken) and shawarma (mediterranean wrap) rages of the past that made one-time entrepreneurs of many ordinary Filipinos. Take greed and add an abject lack of imagination, and you get crime Filipino style.
Airport personnel shittin’ on their own backyard all but mirrors the Philippines’ culture of crime. In a country where senators and congressmen see no problem with the hallowed tradition of squirrelling away millions in public funds using bogus “non-government organisations” into phoney pet “projects”, it actually comes as a bit of a surprise that criminal activity of this sort being deeply-embedded in the country’s premiere airport still shocks Filipinos.
Filipinos are deeply-horrified whenever foreigners perceive or, worse, say something bad about their country and society. Filipinos take offense when they are generalised as crooked, undisciplined, boorish, or stupid — specially by foreigners. Yet a critical facility like the NAIA, where foreigners’ first impressions of the Philippines are forged, has seemingly remained beyond hope of rehabilitation despite decades of it being a source of profound national embarrassment.
The banal slobbery of Filipinos evident in a passenger lounge at the Manila International Airport Terminal 3.

For three straight years up to 2013, the NAIA was voted the “worst airport in Asia” by the travel website Sleeping in Airports. Like the Philippines’ criminal government, however, the sorry state in which the NAIA is in only reflects the character of the people who tolerate its continued failure.
Back in 2014, for example, a photo posted by former Philippine Bureau of Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon on Twitter showing rubbish left behind by passengers at the NAIA Terminal 3 went viral. It can be regarded as evidence that airport officials alone cannot be blamed for its squalor. For that matter, public officials alone aren’t solely to blame for the squalor of any public facility in the Philippines.
In the same way, a criminal people who routinely elect criminal representatives to their Congress can be said to also largely account for the criminal management of their nation’s flagship international airport.
jun_abaya_umbrella
This culture of crime is evident in the way no less than the office of the President of the Philippines itself reportedly dismissed the recent bullet-planting incidents in NAIA as just “one isolated case” that should not be a cause of worry. This comes from an office into which reports the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) which is accountable for the quality of service provided by the NAIA. The DOTC under Secretary Joseph Emilio Aguinaldo ‘Jun’ Abaya has had an appalling track record of seeing critical public transport facilities in the Philippines fail under its watch over the last several years. Yet, despite this unimpressive performance, Abaya has remained within the favours of Philippine President Benigno Simeon ‘BS’ Aquino III who is known to coddle a close inner circle of friends and relatives working for him in government.

This is just the latest in a string of high-profile incidents that are all linked by the common denominator of routine neglect that has become sadly familiar to Filipinos who have long been resigned to the incompetence and criminal neglect that is more the rule than the exception in the Philippines.

Iniisip mong binubulsyet kita.
Straight up my friend, es verdad, ang kamatuoran, Kalki, the fifth horseman of the apocalypse – the truth

Mag aaklas ba tayo? Magwawala ba tayo? Magiging mamamatay tao ba tayo? Nasubukan na yan at di umubra.

Isang sitwasyon, dalawang pananaw (duality and law of attraction)
