According to a user survey by Waze, a traffic and navigation app, Manila, Philippines has the worst traffic on Earth.
Manila earned its top position based on multiple data points.
These include the frequency and severity of traffic jams; quality of infrastructure; driver safety; road and weather hazards; access to driving fundamentals; access to cars and gas prices; and other drivers' helpfulness within the app's community of users.
Each metro area was ranked from 1 to 10. The lower a metro ranked, the more "miserable" it was considered.
Manila scored 0.4. Other places that also didn't fare well were Indonesian capital Jakarta and Brazil's Rio de Janeiro.
Authorities in Manila reacted strongly, but progressively to the designation.
The chair of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said, "Subways will solve our problems."
