THINKING PINOY, PARA ITO SA MGA FANS MONG BOBO!

Yellowtard blogger @PinoyAkoBlog neither accepts nor declines Ferdie Topacio’s ONE MILLION PESO challenge!

 EducationMedia

Really, when someone issues a challenge to you to the tune of one million pesos, the only real sensible response to it is to either accept or decline it. It seems, however, that choosing just one of those answers is beyond the intellectual abilities of top Yellowtard blogger Jover Laurio…

PAB

The question remains unanswered then. Is Jover Laurio up to the challenge issued to her by Topacio? It’s really simple as can be gleaned in the terms of the challenge tweeted by Topacio…
write an 800-word blog in perfect English. Basta on-the-spot, with witnesses, and grammar and syntax to be determined by a neutral English professor. My offer: 1M pesos, tax-free, if she can pull it off.

The Greatest

The Greatest
September 30, 2019
Memorial of Saint Jerome, Priest and Doctor of the Church
Father Edward McIlmail, LC,
Luke 9: 46-50
An argument arose among the disciples about which of them was the greatest. Jesus realized the intention of their hearts and took a child and placed it by his side and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. For the one who is least among all of you is the one who is the greatest." Then John said in reply, "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow in our company." Jesus said to him, "Do not prevent him, for whoever is not against you is for you."
Introductory Prayer: In you, Lord, I find all my joy and happiness. How could I offend you by chasing after fleeting success and lifeless trophies? I believe in you because you are truth itself. I hope in you because you are faithful to your promises. I love you because you have loved me first. I am a sinner; nevertheless, you have given me so many blessings. I humbly thank you.
Petition: Holy Spirit, teach me to see myself as the least of all, as one called to serve all.
  1. Me-first Syndrome: Listening wasn't the disciples' strong suit. How could it be? If they had truly paid attention to the Master, they should have known that the Good News wasn't about striving for prestige and recognition. It was about humility and service. We can only wonder why Jesus' words didn't sink in for his disciples. Yet, are we much better? We hear or read the same Gospel passages year after year, yet we still fall into sins of pride. We might think ourselves better or smarter or holier than the rest. But how does Christ see us
  1. The Corrupter: Jesus explains in what greatness consists: the acceptance of the weakest and most defenseless, in his name. This requires a humble heart. God gives us certain powers that he hopes will be used for good purposes. The history of mankind seethes with tales of people exploiting one another at every opportunity. Examples abound: ethnic groups that exploit minorities, employers who take advantage of poor immigrants, the road-rager who cuts off people in traffic. “Power corrupts,” says the ancient adage. Indeed, it does. How do I treat the people over whom I have authority? Am I like a dictator? Do I always want to show them "who's the boss"? Or is my attitude one of service?
  1. Zealously Jealous: John explains that he and the other disciples tried to stop someone who was doing good in Jesus' name. The person's crime was that he didn't follow "in our company." Christians have derailed more than a few good works over the centuries because they thought themselves appointed by God to police the Church. The Holy Spirit raises up all kinds of new works which need to be serenely discerned, not systematically squelched simply because they are new. "By their fruits you will know them," Jesus says (see Matthew 7:16). The lesson Our Lord wants to give is: Don't be so quick to judge others' motives. Give them the benefit of the doubt and wait to see what their work produces. Is there anyone I'm keeping from doing good?
Conversation with Christ: Give me the grace to see people and actions through your eyes. Let me bring my standards in line with yours. Let me learn to look at a person's heart rather than his appearance. And above all, give me the wisdom never to stand in the way of people doing good for your Church.
Resolution: I will do an act of charity for the pro-life movement or for a children's group.

OFW sends a powerful open letter to Kris Aquino: 'Wag mo agawin samin ang demokrasya Kris'

OFW sends a powerful open letter to Kris Aquino: 'Wag mo agawin amin ang demokrasya Kris'
Joe Smith Medina and Kris Aquino
Joe Smith Medina, a brave OFW based in Thailand wrote a striking open letter addressed to Kris Aquino following latter's Instagram post challenging Mocha Uson in a verbal war.

Medina said he was once a fan of Kris and the Aquino family because of the EDSA People Power I but now it's otherwise. "Iniidola kita at si Cory noon, in fact, don bosco mandaluyog yearbook 2005, section zatti ay naka post ang Aquino as my idol pero ngayon gusto ko ng balikan ang panahon na yun at ibahin na at ang idolo ko na ay aking mga magulang," Medina stated.

Read his full open letter below:

I tried to post @ IG of Kris Aquino but they continue to delete my post.

Anyway, To Ms Kris Aquino, I have watched and weighed also the videos between you and Mocha Uson. I also dont support both of you. I don’t have any plan of voting of her but I will write na lang as observer. I felt insulted for you many times dahil ninakaw ng pamilya mo ang pag akin ng demokrasya. Ang demokrasya ay hindi monopolyo ng iisang pamilya lamang.

Hindi dahil kanino man.

Andanar slams Ressa for saying democracy failing in PHL

(Eagle News)–Presidential Communications Operations Office chief Martin Andanar has slammed Rappler’s Maria Ressa for saying there was “destruction of democracy” in the Philippines.

In a statement, Andanar said “Ms. Ressa remains out of touch with the political realities on the ground as she continues to insinuate that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte won through lies and fake propaganda..” in an opinion piece published on the Los Angeles Times.

According to Andanar, Duterte won “fair and square” with the largest electoral margin in Philippine history.

He slammed Ressa’s comment “lies laced with anger and hate began to systematically tear our democracy apart in the Philippines,” and that “Like a virus, this disease spread fast,” saying she has merely refused to accept that Duterte “is what the people truly wanted and needed.”

He said the results of independent surveys showing an 80% high satisfaction rating and 85% approval and trust rating in Duterte, and an 84% satisfactory rating of Filipinos with democracy in the country in the third quarter of 2018 debunk what Ressa has said.

“This is not democracy being torn apart but rather democracy naturally playing out,” Andanar said, noting  that Ressa has merely refused to accept Duterte “is what the people truly wanted and needed.”

“The people hoped for an action man who can bring positive change to their lives and the Filipino people got what they wanted and truly wanted. His style of governance, albeit unorthodox, resonates with the people,” Andanar said.

Andanar also slammed Ressa’s allegations against the drug war, noting that 5,526 drug suspects were killed and not  27,000 as claimed by Ressa.

He added the drug war is popular among Filipinos, as shown by the 82% satisfactory rating based on a Social Weather Stations survey in the second quarter of 2019.

Andanar also slammed Ressa’s allegations  activists and news organizations face top-down persecution by the government as “baseless and absurd.”

Andanar noted that despite “hurling criticisms against news organizations that carry fake news about his administration, the Chief Executive still signed his very first administrative order as Chief Executive creating an inter-agency body tasked to protect members of the press.”

He added Duterte also recently signed Republic Act 11458, which expands the coverage of exemptions from revealing the source of published news or information obtained in confidence.

“It is not the policy and practice of the current government to ‘harass’ dissenters, as we only present our side of the story,” Andanar said.

“The national government will keep on telling the truth, and we remain confident the people themselves will tell President Duterte’s true legacy,” he added.

Businessman seeks P50-M damages from Rappler for cyber libel

By NICOLE-ANNE C. LAGRIMAS, GMA News
Businessman Wilfredo Keng, the private complainant in the cyber libel case against online news site Rappler, is demanding P50 million in damages over the report that he said "ruined" his reputation.

In a September 18 affidavit, Keng sought P25 million in moral damages and P25 million in exemplary damages, an amount that he said he will donate to charity.

"I want to send the message to members of the media that they cannot simply destroy a person's reputation and character, through irresponsible, inaccurate, malicious and unjust reporting, without grave consequences," Keng said.

Rappler's lawyer, former Supreme Court spokesman Theodore Te, objected, saying the charge and the pre-trial statement of issues did not contain damages sought, making "any statement on monetary damages" "irrelevant" and "inadmissible."

But Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 46 overruled the objection.

The Department of Justice is prosecuting Rappler CEO Maria Ressa and former reporter Reynaldo Santos Jr. over an article that says former chief justice Renato Corona used a vehicle registered under Keng's name, who an "intelligence report" supposedly linked to human trafficking and drug smuggling.

In his affidavit, Keng said the vehicle Corona used during the impeachment trial was not his, but added that he remembered lending one of his vehicles to the late chief justice and that "he returned it to me before the impeachment trial began."

The businessman denied that he committed the crimes mentioned in the report. He said his National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance and letters from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency show he has no derogatory record.

"Because of the accused's malicious imputations against me, however, my family and I have been publicly ridiculed and judged, and my reputation as a businessman has been unjustly tarnished," he said.

The trial will resume on October 8. —KBK, GMA News

Lax about Lazarus

Lax about Lazarus
September 29, 2019
Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Father Edward McIlmail, LC, Luke 16: 19-31

Jesus said to the Pharisees: "There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day. And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man's table. Dogs even used to come and lick his sores. When the poor man died, he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried, and from the netherworld, where he was in torment, he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he cried out, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me. Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering torment in these flames.' Abraham replied, 'My child, remember that you received what was good during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise received what was bad; but now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented. Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is established to prevent anyone from crossing who might wish to go from our side to yours or from your side to ours.' He said, 'Then I beg you, father, send him to my father's house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they too come to this place of torment.' But Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.' He said, 'Oh no, Father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.' Then Abraham said, 'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.'"
Petition: Lord, make me more aware of the people around me who need my help.
  1. Nice Isn't Enough: The rich man in today's Gospel is the proverbial “nice guy.” His good qualities abound. He does, after all, accept his fate meekly. He doesn't ask to be released from hell; he asks for only a drop of water to quench his thirst. And when he can't get even that much relief, he begs for a special messenger in the hopes of sparing his own brothers a similar fate. He at least thinks of the welfare of others. Yet, all that niceness didn't save him from eternal punishment. Do I ever think that just being a "nice" person will get me to heaven? Might I be using my own standards to judge my worthiness, rather than using God's standards?
  2. The “O” Word: The rich man never seemed to be bothered by Lazarus. The poor man was doubtlessly a pitiful sight to behold. Some people would have been quick to send servants to chase the beggar away. But not the rich man; no, he deliberately left the beggar alone. And that is where the rich man erred. His was a sin of omission. The rich man lost his soul not for what he did, but for what he failed to do. Am I much better? Is there someone in need, right under my nose, who I routinely ignore? Is there something I could be doing to end an evil? Do I help the pro-life effort? Do I contribute to the poor? Do I dedicate time to a needy child or sibling or in-law?
  3. Late Love: The rich man, now condemned, shows concern for his five brothers. They, presumably, are living it up — and destined for the same end as their hapless sibling. The rich man's concern is well-placed, but his timing is late. If only he had shown concern for his brothers' souls when he was alive — then he might have made an impact. Caring for family members, helping them reach heaven, is the most loving thing we can do for them. Everything else will be meaningless if our own behavior (or omission) prevents others from attaining salvation. Does that prompt me to pray constantly for family members? To offer up sacrifices for them? Do I try to help others grow in their faith?
Conversation with Christ: Lord, my time in this world is short. Too many people suffer the unexpected death of loved ones and then regret that they didn't do more for them. Let me not make that same mistake. Help me see that each day is a gift, and each encounter with another person is an opportunity to show your love to them.
Resolution: I will do an act of charity for someone whom I have been taking for granted

Atty Ferdie Topacio puts up ONE MILLION PESOS prize money to challenge Jover Laurio to write in PERFECT English!

 EducationMedia

Top lawyer Ferdie Topacio is making it real for top Yellowtard blogger Jover Laurio to the tune of ONE MILLION PESOS!
In a recent tweet, Topacio makes it clear he is serious and spells out some simple rules…
Guys, let’s give PAB a challenge: write an 800-word blog in perfect English. Basta on-the-spot, with witnesses, and grammar and syntax to be determined by a neutral English professor. My offer: 1M pesos, tax-free, if she can pull it off. Serious.
Is Jover Laurio up to the challenge?
Recall that no less than chi chi Ateneo de Manila University recognises Laurio as a key media personality and a poster girl for “journalism”.
As I wrote back then…
Rather than be the true thought leaders they are expected to be, Ateneans have become mere followers. They have, yet again, collectively assumed a comfy prayerful position before the latest golden calf put up by the Yellowtards before them.
Laurio should put pen to paper and prove she is worthy of such quaint adulation coming from the country’s toniest Jesuit-run institution of learning.

The Gift of Faith

The Gift of Faith
September 28, 2019
Saturday of the Twenty-Fifth Week in Ordinary Time
Luke 9:43b-45

While they were all amazed at his every deed, Jesus said to his disciples, "Pay attention to what I am telling you. The Son of Man is to be handed over to men." But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
Introductory Prayer: Lord, you are the author of life and the giver of all that is good. You are the Prince of Peace and my mainstay. You are my healer and the cure itself. I need you, and I need to give you. I love you and commit myself to you entirely, knowing you could never let me down or deceive me. Thank you for giving me your very self.
Petition: Lord Jesus, strengthen my weak faith and guide me along your paths.
  1. The Danger of Triumphalism: Throughout his entire ministry, Jesus understood that his disciples ran the risk of triumphalism, that is, thinking that they would always win, come out on top, and go from one success to the next. That is why, precisely when “all were amazed at his every deed”, Jesus feels the urgency to remind them of his own coming Passion and death. We too can sometimes expect all things to work out well, especially if we have made the decision to follow the Lord and trust fully in his power. The truth, however, is that we too will encounter “being handed over to men” just as the Lord did. The immense difference in following Christ is that we do not experience these “defeats” alone. Our Lord, our Creator, Love himself, is there to walk with us and show us the way forward.
  1. They Did Not Understand: The Gospels make absolutely no attempt to cover up the stubbornness, incredulity and slowness of heart of Jesus’ disciples. This might at first surprise or even scandalize us – after all, what chance have we of understanding Christ if the very people who saw him and walked with him did not understand? However, we know that these very disciples became the foundation of the Church and began the process of converting the Roman empire with the radical authenticity of their lives and their preaching. When we find ourselves “not understanding” what the Lord does and permits in our lives, we are in fact in good company. We can pray for the power of the Resurrection and the Holy Spirit to open our minds and set our hearts on fire.
  1. Afraid to Ask: The disciples in today’s Gospel passage were afraid to question Jesus. Maybe they feared looking dumb or thought that everyone else had understood except for themselves. Maybe they thought that Jesus had called them to be his disciples on the assumption that they would always understand his teachings. Whatever the case might be, we are left with the impression that they really missed out on something important simply because “they were afraid to ask”. The same evangelist – St. Luke – who writes this passage told us earlier of another disciple who was NOT afraid to ask. She received an important message hand-delivered by an Angel, but was not too insecure to ask “and how is this supposed to happen?” Our Lord does NOT want us to keep our questions to ourselves. May we imitate Our Lady’s bold and humble curiosity in our journey to a greater intimacy with the Lord.
Conversation with Christ: Lord Jesus, you work mysteriously in my life and I don’t always understand. Help me to be comfortable in turning to you and asking for a greater faith, a greater hope, and a greater love, that will help open my mind and my heart to understand your message and to see your work more clearly in my own life.
Resolution: In my prayer today I will beg, in all humility, for the gift of faith in Jesus Christ.
