Leni Robredo would rather talk to the media than discuss her ideas with Duterte

Leni Robredo
To be fair to “vice president” Leni Robredo, she’s got a few ideas that are worth looking at, like her suggestion that a rehab programme be set up to support President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs. According to Robredo, this is the “missing” component in Duterte’s campaign to rid the country of the drug scourge…
“For me, we need a more holistic solution to drugs rather than be reactive all the time,” Robredo said Tuesday in an interview in Bocaue, Bulacan, where she visited a housing project.
Robredo has spoken out against the spate of extrajudicial killings of suspected drug dealers or users but maintains that the Office of the Vice President is “very supportive” of the government’s anti-drug campaign.

“In fact, we were talking about it in the office: What role can we perform to show our support to the President? What we saw that’s missing is rehabilitation. That’s where the gap is,” said Robredo, who was a human rights lawyer before entering politics.
One wonders, however, why Robredo is talking to the media instead of tabling her proposal at the next Cabinet meeting. A high-ranking member of the government such as Robredo pitching her proposal at the media not only comes across as an exercise in barking up the wrong tree, it also provides some insight on which side of Duterte’s Circle of Trust the current “vice president” is situated. Indeed, perhaps Robredo remains an outsider and not the insider that one would expect the second most powerful official in the Philippine Government to be.
The explanation for this bizarre behaviour is likely to be quite simple. Robredo, it seems, would rather be a media whore than a team player in Duterte’s administration. It makes sense of course. As I write this, speculation is rife, thanks to her non-stop self-promotion, that Robredo is itching for her turn to become president. As our GRP commenter observed much is at stake and hinges on a Robredo presidency…
It seems she really cannot wait for something to happen to the current president. If Duterte makes it past the first half of 2019, the yellows will be in an even weaker position than they are in today. A number of yellow senators up for re-election in 2019 will have a hard time winning if the present anti-yellow climate continues and they have no more access to Smartmagic. Time is of the essence.
Politics in a “democracy”, after all, is all about being seen to be doing goodin aid of ultimately winning elections. Robredo, true to this politician archetype, still seems to be in election campaign mode rather than getting down to the job of, well, doing her job as “vice president” and being a team player. The vice president, after all, is just a heartbeat away from the presidency. Yet, a chasm seems to separate Robredo from the incumbentpresident!
For many Filipinos, the traditional politician (trapo) persona that Robredo had morphed into over the last several months stands in stark contrast to the quiet vice presidency that her predecessor, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, maintained in the first few years of the previous administration.
The problem with Robredo grandstanding about her ideas before the media is that these ideas haven’t been vetted, peer-reviewed, nor deliberated at the right levels. In a sense, there is no substance backing whatever Robredo is telling the young hipster “reporters” who scramble to lap up every factoid they could get their hands on to make their deadlines.
In the case of Robredo’s rehab programme idea, questions have been raised as to how much such an initiative will cost the hapless Filipino taxpayer. Already, prisons are bursting at the seams with an overpopulation of Filipino crooks scraped off the streets by the police. The Philippine government does not have the resources to even just house and feed them, much more “rehabilitate” these poor sods.
The lesson? Key to keeping Filipino politicians honest is in ensuring that, at the very least, their words are regarded with a critical mind and not with thegullible sensibilities Philippine corporate news media apply to their business of “informing” their audience on important issues.

3 key points in defense of Duterte's "war on drugs"

After watching Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s interview with Christiane Amanpour on CNN, here are some suggestions to the Duterte government on how to communicate better about the war on the drugs.

The key is to focus on just three points. What are these three points?

POINT 1: Many of the killings are due to the drug lords cleansing their ranks.

– The drug lords and the crooked police who worked for them in the past are killing off their pushers before they can surrender and confess what they know.

– Of all the people who would want to capture these pushers alive, it is the Duterte administration, because these pushers have a lot of intel on drug networks. They are useless to the Duterte government if they are dead.

– The drug lords and crooked police are framing the legitimate police for the deaths of the pushers to discredit the anti-drug campaign.

POINT 2: Average daily killings are actually lower now under Duterte compared to the previous administration.

– Statistics from the last ten years prove this. Statistics also show that the number of casualties in police operations is very small as a percentage compared to the number of surrenderees.

– Groups connected to the drug lords—including the drug lord protectors in high government positions—are distorting the number of killings in order to discredit the anti-drug campaign.

– Central to this disinformation campaign is the move to label every death an “extra-judicial killing” even those that have nothing to do with the anti-drug campaign. The head of the Commission on Human Rights, Chito Gascon, a loyalist and appointee of the previous administration that coddled the drug lords, seems to be a participant in this disinformation campaign.

POINT 3: Leila de Lima is a tainted source.

– During Leila de Lima’s term as secretary of the Department of Justice in the previous administration, the Bilibid national penitentiary, which was under her supervision, became the number one source of shabu (meth) in the Philippines.

– It was also during De Lima’s term as DOJ secretary that the drug lords at Bilibid were able to turn their jail cells into luxury suites and do whatever they wanted, including hold lavish parties and concerts. She even attended their parties, and there are videos and pictures to prove this.

– Leila de Lima had an intimate relationship with her driver whom witnesses have claimed was the fixer/middleman between the Bilibid drug lords and the prison guards and DOJ officials who accepted bribes so the drug lords could have free reign at the prison.

Important tip shared by a friend who’s a pro: Stick to three points, and don’t let the interviewer control you. No matter what the interviewer asks, answer in a way that brings the discussion back to your three points. Resist the temptation to keep elaborating once you’ve made your point so the message is not drowned out by the details.

I applaud Senator Alan Peter Cayetano for his vigorous defense of the honor of our country, our police, and our President in front of the international media. Although he seemed a bit nervous, his passion and sincerity came across in the CNN interview. Meanwhile, De Lima was speaking like a stoned zombie who was obviously more interested in defending herself rather than the victims she was claiming to represent.

Leila de Lima proved one thing in that CNN interview: She will utter whatever lie is necessary—even lies that jeopardize the reputation of our country—to save herself. After watching that interview, it is clear there is no way De Lima will resign from the Senate or hang herself, as has been suggested. There is no way she will do that, because you cannot shame the shameless.

DOJ Aguirre confirms alleged employee ordered by De Lima to deposit millions in ex-driver's account

According to Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre III, a former employee of Senator Leila de Lima said that he was allegedly given money by De Lima to deposit millions to her ex-driver bank account, Ronnie Dayan.

Jonathan "Jong" Caranto, former Department of Justice (DOJ) employee executed affidavit against De Lima.

"Binibigyan daw say (Caranto) ng pera ni DeLima para ideposit dun sa account ni Dayan," Aguirre said.

According to Inquirer reports, the other employee was named Edna "Bogs" Obuyes.

Aguirre cited that the two employees voluntarily executed the affidavit and willing to prove their statement by undergoing a like detector test.

"Merong affidavit, walang pumilit sa kanila, voluntary," Aguirre said.

Aguirre guaranteed that the cash in the account would not be equivalent to the pay rates of the two workers.

He also emphasized that there are other individuals who might turn out and talk about the asserted debasement inside the National Bilibid Prison.

"Hindi maliliit lang ang suweldo nila (The salaries are not so low)," DOJ Aguirre said.

"Hindi pa nga tapos yung investigation namin so tingnan natin kung paaano mail-link, kung mali-link ba yun sa kanya o hindi," Aguirre added.

Yellow Camp has MILKED Filipino "hero" mentality for far too long

The practice of naming people "heroes" does far more harm than good. In the Philippines, it has been used as a tool for propaganda and brainwashing.

For instance, the idea of Ninoy Aquino as a "hero" who sacrificed his life for the Philippines is nothing more than a fairytale. Ninoy Aquino was a traditional politician no different from the ones we see today. His primary motive for criticizing Marcos since he was a young senator was to build up his political career through constant media coverage. When he came back from exile in 1983, it was not because he wanted to shed his blood for the Filipinos, but because he knew there was a power struggle between Imelda Marcos, Juan Ponce Enrile, and Danding Cojuangco as to who would succeed Marcos, and he did not want to be left out of the running.

After Aquino was shot at the airport, the oligarchs and their foreign backers saw an opportunity to package Ninoy into a martyr so they could fire up the emotions of the people against Marcos, and turn those emotions into political support for his widow Cory whom they were grooming to replace Marcos. That is how Ninoy Aquino became an instant "hero". (The same formula is being used now with Jesse Robredo to benefit Leni Robredo, but it's not working.)

There are no heroes in the story of Marcos and Aquino. Both of them acted in their own interest.

It is high time we Filipinos made a conscious decision not to let the Marcos-Aquino drama define the fate of our country anymore. Between these two, it is the yellow Aquino camp that poses a greater danger to our country today because of the damage caused by the monumental incompetence of the two Aquino presidencies in the last 30 years and because the yellows are now doing everything they can to unseat the one person who can rectify our situation, President Duterte.

I support burying Marcos at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani not because I think Marcos is a hero, but because I believe burying him there will weaken the yellow camp's ability to keep milking the Marcos saga for political gain. The Philippine government has already created enough avenues for Martial Law victims to obtain reparations. That is what the activists should be focusing on. Burying Marcos in LNMB serves a different, more practical purpose-to protect President Duterte by neutralizing the yellows.

How long are we Filipinos going to let these noisy, unproductive parasites keep blocking real progress in our country? These yellows want the Marcos-Aquino soap opera to stay alive for a hundred more years so they can keep making political hay out of it. But that is not what we want. What we want is no more traffic, no more flooding, cheaper electricity, higher incomes, efficient government, peace and order, and most of all, no more pointless yellow drama that sucks away so much of our government officials' time when there are many real problems waiting to be solved.

Burying Marcos at LNMB will help bury the yellows' capacity to destabilize this country, and that is good enough. Those who are against it on account of Martial Law atrocities should look beyond symbolism and sentimentality and focus instead on the tangible benefits that can come out of proceeding with the burial. The yellows used the corpse of Ninoy Aquino to build their political capital. Now the corpse of Ferdinand Marcos can be used to devalue that capital.

The likes of Risa Hontiveros and Bam Aquino might say that "misguided" people like me come to this conclusion due to lack of adequate schooling on the horrors of Martial Law. But I had anti-Marcos propaganda coming out of my ears when I was growing up. It was always in the news. Just like all the campaigns to promote the Aquinos were everywhere. How come it didn't work?

Because you yellows always underestimate the intelligence of the Filipino. You always presume to know better. You don't. Given access to the right information, Filipinos can correctly make up their own minds. That is why in the internet age, it is getting harder and harder for you to keep us fooled.
