Rappler big boss Maria Ressa is under fire for supposedly peddling fake news about the alleged involvement of the Islamic State to the Resorts World attack.
The social media entity posted a story “ISIS ‘Filipino operative’ behind Resorts World Manila attack – SITE” which cited information from the group that tracks online activity of terror groups. Government officials however ruled out terrorism as the reason behind the casino siege, saying it was a criminal act perpetrated by a mad gunman.
Several netizens quickly pounced on Ressa for allegedly spreading unverified information. Ressa however defended that it was her responsibility to report all angles.
“A breaking news story requires we cover and report all angles. We don’t choose NOT to report one because it might make you afraid,” she said.
