Ito ang naging pahayag ni Bishop Socrates Villegas sa kanyang homily sa St. John Cathedral noong Disyembre 31. Ayon pa kay Villegas, hindi raw bayani si Duterte kundi isa raw mamatay tao.
Inudyukan niya rin ang mga tagapakinig niya na hikayatin ang mga miyembro ng kongreso na tutulan ang pagpapanumbalik ng parusang bitay
Makikipagtulungan nman si Congressman Teddy Baguilat kay Bishop VIllegas para ilunsad ang malawakang prayer rally para ipakita sa publiko ang kanilang pagtutuol sa pagbabalik ng parusang kamatayan.
Ayon sa Manila Times, sinabi raw ni VIllegas na ang mga taong nakakagawa ng krimen ay biktima rin raw.
"Villegas said most of the people who made mistakes and violated the law are victims of injustice and poverty." sabi sa artikulo ng Manila Times.
