Power crisis looms in Mindanao scream the headlines. The screams of exasperation from people hit by the power outages are louder though.
If only, these headlines weren’t an annual ritual of power outages – year in and year out. But it is.
So far what have Pinoys in Mindanao done about it?
Thus far, these are what they have done that I know of:
1 – Petition the national government for more subsidies to NPC?
2 – Protest against US imperialism?
3 – Call for a new DOE Secretary?
4 – Ask for more regulations?
5 – Demand the nationalization of the power industry (never mind that the privatization in Luzon has addresses the power outages better than the state run NPC in Mindanao – whose highly subsidized power is distributed by utilities in Mindanao.
The latest yarn I have heard from Digong’s supporters is to blame Noynoy. Kinda neat eh – Noynoy blames GMA, Dutirti blames Noynoy. Seems Boy Sisi will be back in a different collar. LOL
Apparently, to Pinoys, only Filipino owned utilities protected from competition should be the only suppliers of electric power.
These same Pinoys have blocked out the options of:
1. Having local and foreign owned companies compete in providing superior service to Filipino customers.
2. Eliminating LGU utility franchises.
3. Abolishing the EPIRA and fully deregulating the electric power industry.
4. Removing barriers to market based renewable eco friendly energy solutions.
***
In artificially restricting the number of producers of electric power – through constitutionally imposed restrictions, the Pinoys have pinned themselves to the limited capacity of the local government cronies – and blocked out any chances of decisively solving the power outage.
So what were these congressmen doing during the past 15 years since the millenium? Have they even demonstrated a flicker of light in their skulls? Obviously, they had brownouts in their mind too.
How about the people who were supposed to hold these officials accountable? By the looks of it – they have a brownout in their minds, too.
But never fear, brownouts don’t matter – for as long as Pinoys can vote their enslavers este leaders.
So, here we are today, facing perpetual brownouts – no thanks to the perpetual brownout of the Pinoy mind.
