AL-KHOBAR, Saudi Arabia – A Filipina who was raped by her employer’s two sons was able to escape, only to be victimized again, this time, by a prostitution den in Saudi Arabia.
“Lulu”, not her real name, hoped to provide a better future for her family in the Philippines by working abroad. But she now regrets leaving her husband and three children to work overseas.
The overseas Filipina worker said she was confronted with problems ever since arriving in Saudi Arabia last May.
Aside from being overworked, Lulu also took care of her employer’s 6 grown up children, 2 of whom raped her.
The first one to use her was her 17-year-old ward. The boy was followed by her employer’s eldest son who is 26 years old.
“Minsan tinatakot ako. Sinisipa ako. Hinahampas 'yung pwet ko. Hindi ako maka-ano, malalaki 'yung alaga ko,” she said.
Her employer did not believe her when she complained and this forced her to leave them.
A Bangladeshi national took advantage of the OFW and pretended to help her by bringing her to the Philippine Embassy. However, she found herself in a room with 6 other women—a Pinay, 3 Malaysians and 2 Sri Lankans.
“'Yung mga babae binubugaw nila. Dadalin nila kung saan-saang lugar, may kwarto doon," she said.
She found the opportunity to escape and was immediately assisted by Filipinos. Now, without money and belongings, the Filipino community is helping Lulu return to the Philippines.
"Gusto ko pong iparating sa lahat ng mga kababayan natin kung maari lang po ay tulungan po natin siya," community leader Aiza Monares said. Dinan Aranan, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau
