As predicted, Filipinos were up in arms once again as a Miss Earth beauty contestant whose full name I don’t care to know mentioned a few truths about what she experienced in the hellhole called The Philippines.
I really don’t know why a beauty contest ironically called Miss Earth would hold its event in The Philippines when the country is not really Earth friendly and there are better places in the world to go to that have more class and common sense.
I am sure that the organizers brought them to what she called a “ridiculous TV show” where a guy like Willie Revillame would present them to an over-fawning audience. They would see the TV show with cheap women dancing, contestants being made to do stupid things and all sorts of tackiness. Of course, the term “ridiculous TV show” is just the straightforward way to describe what she saw. I don’t see anything wrong with that. Why couldn’t Filipinos accept the responsibility that they enabled those kinds of shows to flourish that is why the culture keeps deteriorating and those from normal societies just couldn’t help but point it out (to the chagrin of the stupid Filipinos who can’t handle the truth).
The country being dirty and noisy is also correct. I don’t see anything wrong with any person stating her honest and forthright views about what she sees. We practice freedom of expression and people should learn to respect people’s valid opinions.
The reactions of The Filipinos to the statement (IMHO her account was not hacked) captured in the screenshot on her FB page are very much predictable. They felt “hurt” and “insulted” by the “racist” foreigner that they lashed back with all their fingers’ mights angrily pounding away at the keyboard as their eyebrows furrowed and their chests got tighter.
Those reactions only show the world how weak Filipinos are as a people and how they lack class. Class is sometimes not in what you do, it is in what you NOT do. Strength of character is not seen in people who react and get “hurt” by every statement they have to give a hoot about but can be seen in those who can still keep their composure and either brush the statement aside or take it into consideration and not be flustered by it.
Why do the Germans not whine and go on emotional breakdowns when for the thousandth time, a Hollywood movie portrays them as Nazis? Why is it that when I tell a Canadian I couldn’t live in their country because there is too much snow, they just say they agree and can’t wait to retire so they can move to a tropical paradise? That is because they are sure of themselves and secure. Unlike the Pinoys who experience “tililing rampages” when beauty queens/actors say things about them. Being beholden to beauty pageants, beauty queens and showbiz is a sign that a person (or a society such as Pinoy society) is cheap and tacky.
When Alec Baldwin mentioned he would get a mail order bride from Russia and The Philippines, the latter was roused to anger with a Senator even challenging Baldwin to a fistfight. It shows that Filipinos are easily hurt and they value everything said by anyone in U.S. television. The Russians? They did not breathe a word about it, rendering Alec Baldwin irrelevant to them. The message sent by their silence is that they have better things to do, they are strong in character, they have class and to them Alec Baldwin is a nobody.
Remember when Claire Danes said that Manila was a “ghastly” city a decade or so ago? Filipino politicians immediately grandstanded and made her persona non grata and outraged citizens became overnight drama queens crying their hearts out. Why is it that after ten years Manila is still ghastly? What have those same politicians and “outraged citizens” done? Is it because all the people do is get hurt and react when truth is told and attack the messenger instead of being courageous enough to face the truth and solve the problem?
If people state unpleasant observations about The Philippines and they happen to be true, then don’t get hurt. Accept what is said and do something to change it. In order to change the perception of the world about The Philippines and Filipinos, then you have to change the realities upon which those perceptions are based. Trying to suppress the truth would not enable you to confront it and do something about it. You rather sweep the poop under the rug where it would rot and smell rather than acknowledging its existence so you can scoop it up, throw it outside and wash the floor with soap and water.
I believe Filipinos need to become normal like the citizens of most of the world’s other countries. This latest display of collective “kabakyaan” of The Filipino people has further pushed the image of The Filipino down into the abyss, making the world look lower and lower on a people who have failed to earn respect.
Interesting point made on Character above.

I believe its the level of Filipino that matters.. what I mean is you will find those in power quick to push down others have seen it time and time here. For example you give a statement that offends them even though your right they will be extremely aggressive towards you as they run blindly and for self gain. The anger shown no doubt involves politicians liking a bit of personal media coverage for themselves. You mentioned the Alec Baldwin incident but nobody ever questions why the senator was in the U.S. as a lot of the so called Philippines government and its previous family members are more “foreign” to the Philippines than most because they don’t live there most of the time. In the same way they expect people to have medical treatment here while they themselves are quick to head abroad.
Now the poor Pinoy’s are sold this crap on TV 24/7 and to be honest I haven’t seen a TV show in nearly 2 years as simply I can’t stand the nonsense. If someone has a TV on I question about why are they watching it etc. and how its slowly killing brain cells at which point they normally switch it off rather than discuss the matter. THIS IS WHERE THE ISSUE IS nobody questions why, they are sold it as the medium of choice yet its the worst form of television I have come across so far worldwide. Would struggle to beat North Korean no doubt but its not great!
But my point is the average Filipino knows the streets are dusty, rivers are full of human waste and garbage and life is crap. They just put up with it due to lack of choice. The rich on the other hand are always quick to tell you to “put up and shut up!” be grateful for what you have! because if the natives become restless they are looking at a real revolution.

If the the Philippines was on common ground with other countries in terms wealth they wont retaliate to those Filipino jokes but no people here live through sheer optimism that there life will get better in the future. In regards to that Alec Baldwin line some Filipinos are so desperate to get out of poverty they will do exactly that without hesitation even if there future is shady if I’m the parent, relative, or friend of this girl I’ll bash the haters with all my might because she made a great sacrifice just to be mocked by the world.

I was arguing yesterday with Filipinos on the YouTube comment section. I mentiontioned that everything Ms. Earth contestant said were essentially true. I argued the amount of garbage all over the place is incredible, the squatters and shanty towns on every corner, makes it a very filthy place to be. I got cursed out and told that I was over exaggerating things and that there’s garbage everywhere in the world not just the Philippines. In my head I’m like, “These people really can’t see or smell the filthy garbage?”
I don’t know how this problem could be solved, they live in a vacuum and have never really seen a higher standard of living, hence they cannot make a comparison of what is clean vs what is filthy. They probably perceive these wowowwee shows to be an ingenious creation as well.
Does anyone have any solution? Obviously telling them they stink won’t persuade them that they need to shower. They’ll probably say something along the lines of “Everyone has that smell” or “That is not true, I demand an apology”

Here’s a solution:
1. The 90,000,000 million Filipinos living in the Philippines should start using their common sense and have some balls to stop saying, “OPO SIR, OPO MA’AM.”
2. These 90 millions should gather every member of the oligarchy (families and friends) and ship them to Corregidor and gas chamber the phuck out of them.
3. Abolish the constitution and invite the Americans back so the Filipinos won’t have to worry about rebuilding nor defending itself against China…we’ll be the 51st state and in 10 years, the Philippines will be America’s paradise.
“I would rather have a Philippines run like heaven by Americans, rather than a Philippines run like hell by Filipinos. Because no matter how good the government is, that means we won’t have to change it.”

I like #1. It pisses me off hearing them say opo, maam, sir.
I was watching the news and the Cheif of Police was saying opo, maam, sir to the news casters as if the celebrities held a higher rank than he. I think opo, is fine if in the situation if you are trying to show respect to an elder which you hold in high regard. otherwise, saying it to random people because they hold a higher income, is like bowing down to them.

As an American, I will only agree with number 1 on your list. Opo and Po only shows subservience, a by-product of the colonized mentality in this country. As far as the Philippines becoming the 51st state, it will never happen and I’ll tell you why. The US doesn’t want the Philippines and it certainly doesn’t want to inherit all of its problems. That would open the door to nearly 100 million people (who consequently are not wanted or needed) to enter into the mainland US. With them, they would bring their bad Pinoy traits, habits, and work ethic and would corrupt the system. Welfare and unemployment would be through the roof and the US would fall into ever greater debt. Do you really think the US wants to open it’s borders to 100 million 3rd world citizens? That would be comparable to the US merging with Mexico…it would NEVER happen and if anyone thinks that could possibly happen, keep on dreaming!

it has the truth on what the constestant said, but again why is it that every topic involves the whole so called “the philippines” instead of a specific place, why is it that it involves filipinos as a whole, why is it that they will mentioned the whole philippines was dirty eventhough what the constestant saw or the writer saw is actually a small part of luzon, includes manila. Hmmm so what I saw in china town, new york city where all the mess and smell can I consider it is the whole new york state?….though for the comment regarding alec baldwin and claire danes, what can i say it is true i dont know why so many people reacted instead of taking action to avert those comment again….for example on claire danes issue, it is simple the truth regarding the city of manila frankly 60 to 70 percent of its land area is very messy and smells like urine….hehehe specially divisoria. Unlike on 70′s where everything is different.

“Rafterman”, I take my hat off to you! Are you also a carpenter? You know how to hit the nail properly on the head!
As the threadbare cliché goes: “Truth hurts and it hurts exceedingly so.” And those who live in dreams and only hope, die fasting. Moreover, our “balat sibuyas” is much too inordinate. You’re absolutely correct. If we are frequently receiving services discontinuance notices, let’s not kill the mailman.
If I may also, I’d like to add to your thoughts. It’s not enough that we throw the poop outside for others to step on. Look what’s happening to most of our important rivers: Pasig, Malabon, Bulacan, etc. Your 10 years ago is as true to the tell tale signs of my about 50 years ago.
Similar to your homily, let’s examine this clash of the titans in our society today. PNoy has been unceremoniously criticized for a speech he delivered very recently where his target was the Chief Justice no less. The contrary criticisms by no less than those who were adequately educated are all over broadcast and print media.
I consider the incident a factual expression of concern, a reiteration of long cherished moral values. I was watching thankful and clapping my hands because somehow, my sentiments were properly expressed by no less than the President of the Philippines, the Chief Executive of the land. Particularly so also because it was spoken with sincerety during the opening of a forum, “crimnal justice”, or something. For me it was rather the proper time to address the restive sentiments, because there are many. For one, I cannot respect a SC that caters to the padrino system. A SC that flip-flops on its decision on a mere letter no matter how scholarly who wrote it. A SC that is determined to decide on the mere say-so of a favored side of a case without hearing the other significant side. To whom might I turn to now, a common tao, when the flaunted last arbiter of the land is nothing but a den of HONORABLE padrinos?
Lest I be misunderstood, I did not vote for President Aquino. Boy, does he have balls!
Regards, gil.

They were located in Siberia, Soviet Union…
The television in the Philippines is aimed at the masses to keep them out of any intellectual pursuit. maybe they wouldn’t want it anyway but if one looks at the BBC’s remit in UK it is ‘to inform, educate and entertain’. The masses in the Philippines, in my opinion are controlled deliberately by the oligarch controlled media and corporations because stupid people will do what they are told. An old English phrase is ‘keep her barefoot and pregnant to keep her at all.’ the Catholic church in the Philippines is very good at enforcing this regimen on its customers. As I say regularly here all the good stuff in the Philippines, and there is loads, is completely wiped out by the masses of bad things. There is no way for a bright future until the people are given freedom of choice, healthcare, education that does more than teaching the children how to write neatly and pushes people to stretch. I have had enough of shop assistants who cannot even add up and use a calculator for every transaction. Wake up Philippines and stop being so sensitive! Stupidity isn’t always in bred it is also socialised and environmental, you do have a choice.
