ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES

DIYOS NA MAHABAGIN, KAILAN PA KAYA?

WHAT'S the big deal when Lapu Lapu killed Magellan in 1521? Nothing much really. During Lapu-Lapu's time, Mactan was strictly tribal. Think small, gid. There were no big ideas such as nationalism or geopolitics.

Lapu-Lapu was simply, the local siga-siga and Magellan was the culture-shocked Westerner, a native first-timer in the exotic east. We lionize Lapu-Lapu as a hero and a nationalist. Ang totoo, mayabang lang si Lapu-Lapu. But his defeat of a foreign invader did not make a Filipino nation.

The timing was wrong. And don't you believe that bull that Spanish explorers came to find spices in the East to improve the taste of their bland cuisine. Their hidden agenda was to spread their kingdom through colonization, the euphemism for land grabbing.

During the 333 years of Spanish rule (1565-1898), hundreds of rebellions were waged by native firebrands in many parts of the archipelago. Not one succeeded. Our rebels were either caught, garotted, or simply ignored by the Comandante as nuisances. Puro malas!

The execution of Rizal in 1896 was a traumatic experience for Filipinos. Those who read Rizal's "Fili" and "Noli" were incensed by the abuses of the church and state regime of the Spaniards. Emotions ran high, from Aparri to Jolo. The critical mass needed for nationhood was formed. At last we could rebel as a people, as a nation.

The Katipunan did their battle heroics, originally led by the firebrand Bonifacio and later on by the crafty Aguinaldo. With more Katipunan charges (Sugod mga Kapatid), freedom seemed possible. Between 1897 and 1899,stealth, betrayal, and skullduggery bedeviled our prospect for independence. The Aguinaldo and Bonifacio factions engaged in an ugly infighting (the talangka mentality) resulting in the execution of Bonfacio. Meantime, an American Admiral named Dewey (not Dewey Dee, the fast one) entered Manila Bay and defeated a lackluster Spanish navy. Aguinaldo reneged on the pact of Biak na bato. He resumed the revolution by proclaiming Philippine Independence in Kawit.

Meanwhile, American and Spanish soldiers held "moro moro" battle in Intramuros with the Spaniards surrendering. Aguinaldo's republic and his KKK patriots were left out and ignored. Naisahan tayo. Minalas na naman. The Filipino-American War broke out. Tall American soldiers looking like Clark Gable chased and battled the outlawed Filipino revolutionaries, ending in the capture of Aguinaldo in Isabela, thanks to the mercenaries from Macabebe. This was the mother of all kamalasan.

At that time, our population was 8 million. The gap between the rich and the poor was estimated at 30% middle-class and rich, 70% low-class and rural poor.

During the Commonwealth period (1901-1941) which followed, there were lots of learning on democratic principles, its structure and governance. Technology transfers were done on Constitutional Rights, Public Education, Transportation, Health, International Trade and Industrialization. The Americans turned out to be good tutors. Filipinos also went crazy over American brand products like Libby's corned beef, Portola sardines, Hershey's Kisses and Wrigley's chewing gum, Camel cigarettes and Model T Ford for the hacenderos of Pampanga and Iloilo.

Hollywood films made Pinoy males fantasize on Jean Harlow, Betty Grable and Mae West. Thus, Filipino colonial mentality began. We fondly called this period Peace Time. By the way, American troops massacred innocent people in Balanguiga. Mga hayup din pala!

1941. Disaster! World War II! After attacking Pearl Harbor, the Japanese army invaded our country defeating the combined American and Filipino forces (USAFE). General McArthur, the proud and handsome Army chief, fled to Australia at the height of the battle. For four miserable years we suffered the sadism of the Japanese militarists rule. Torture, famine, and death were for us, the order of the day. Kawawa. Malas na malas!

The American forces returned in 1945 to liberate the country. McArthur, General superiority complex himself, sporting Ray Ban sunglasses and corncob pipe swaggered back to Manila. Piqued at his humiliation in 1941, McArthur ordered the bombing and shelling of Manila till kingdom come. The whole-wide expanse South of Pasig - from Post Office to Vito Cruz, including all of Intramuros - was pulverized. Manila was the most destroyed city of World War II. Our culture, our heritage, and historical assets (seven beautiful churches in Intramuros, hundreds of elegant Art Deco and neo-classical architecture in Paco and Taft) were sacrificed recklessly and completely erased from the face of the earth. Sayang na sayang!

In 1946, we gained our Independence from the Americans. We were a free nation at last. We had enough exposure and lessons on how to govern a democratic country, the first in Asia. Our population was 17 million. The dollar exchange was US$1 to P2. But there was still no peace from 1947 to 1966. A widespread communist rebellion led by Taruc, the Lava brothers, and its armed guerillas called Hukbalahap waged bloody war with government troops. Filipinos killed kapwa Filipinos. Malas na naman!

Our politicians and bureaucrats learned to engage in graft and corruption (What are we in power for?) - such as the war surplus bribery, the Tambobong wheeling-dealing and the Namarco scam. Talo na naman! Six presidents were elected to manage the country from 1947 to 1972, under the democratic system. They were Presidents Roxas, Quirino, Magsaysay, Garcia, Macapagal and Marcos.

Economists looked back to the decades of the 50s and 60s as the best years of the Philippine economy, surpassing Asian countries. The nostalgia was naivete, a useless ego-tripping. The gap between the rich and the poor remained big. 30% middle-class and rich, 70% low-class, rural and urban poor. We were 27 million people. US$1 was to P4.

During the late 60's, the Maoist communists led by Dante intensified its drive to overthrow the government. Marcos added fuel to the fire by creating a communist spook. Violence and mayhem rule the streets. The youth went up in arms! Martial Law was declared in 1972 and Marcos became dictator. Freedom of assembly and expression went out of the window. What followed were years of dictatorial abuse, crony capitalism, shackled free enterprise, near economic collapse and a demoralized middle class. The gap between the rich (30%) and poor (70%)remained in a quagmire. Our population was 40 million. Exchange rate was US$1 to P7. Kawawang kawawa! Malas na malas!

In 1983, Ninoy Aquino, Marcos' exiled arch rival, was assassinated upon his return. Push came to shove. Cardinal Sin egged on the people on to protest. Outrage, self-pity, shame and fury raged and rumbled like a tidal wave, culminating in the incredible People Power Revolution. The very sick and obstinate Marcos fled (hijacked by Americans from Clark) to Hawaii (sounds like Paoay) where he died. His alleged millions of stolen dollars and gold bars intact and unresolved. Up to now.

But People Power was our shining glory! The whole world applauded our saintly courage, our dignified defiance, our bloodless solution to expel a dictator. We were the toast of all freedom-loving countries, the envy of all oppressed people. In 1986, we placed Cory Aquino, Ninoy's widow, in Malacanang. She was virtuous, sincere and full of good intentions for the country. But what happened?

Coup attempts by Honasan, power struggle, political squabbles, and the infighting for juicy deals harassed the amateur Cory presidency. So nothing happened. No progress took place. The economy was still bad. The poor suffered more and more. Sure we got democracy back on its feet. But the Filipino resolve didn't happen. People Power pala was ningas cogon power. Sayang na sayang!

The gap between the rich and the poor remained at 30% (middle-class and rich), 70% (lower-class and rural/urban poor). Exchange rate was US$1 to P25. We were 55 million people.

In 1992, Cory's choice, Fidel Ramos, West Pointer, soldier, and hero of the People Power won the presidency. He had the bearing, the single-mindedness and the vision to bring the country to a tiger economy status. Ramos was a terrific salesman of the Philippines to the world. He was able to hype a climate of an economic ground. He removed barriers to progress. He was an apostle of privatization. His mantra was, less government, more private sector! Fidel hit the right note and the economy went on a roll.

Fidel wanted to run for re-election but failed to swing the cha-cha (an idiotic acronym for Constitutional Change) so he could run again. In 1997, the Asian economic crises struck, triggered by a balloon burst of the hyper speculative Bangkok economy. The financial debacle created disastrous effects in the investment institutions of Manila, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Taiwan. All the Ramos gains evaporated into thin air. Malas na naman! The poor, specially Mang Pandoy, were poorer than ever.

1998 was showbiz time! The Erap para sa mahirap show opened to the chagrin of the Makati Business Club. Pasensya na po kayo, mga elitists. Democracy is also weird. The choice of the masa must into the dust. Those who voted against opening the envelop were legalese intellectually brilliant. Also heartless and thick-skinned. They couldn't fathom the heartbeat of the nation. Cardinal Sin, ageing and sickly, called the people again. It was People Power II! Same humongous and collective umbrage, same brinkmanship, and same staccato prayers! Generals Reyes and Villanueva simply joined the mammoth EDSA crowd. No US jets from Clark this time. Erap was out! Gloria was in!

Hope springs eternal. Malacanang regained its honor and dignity. Protocol was observed. Absurdity was gone. Grammatical English was back.

2001. More catastrophies! The peso plummeted to a horrifying P51 to US$1. The Abu Sayyaf (extremist ideologues? Or mindless barbarians) were into kidnapping and terrorism, gaining world-wide notoriety. Businesses are still closing shop. Thousands of workers are being retrenched. Prices of food and gasoline are very high. (Galunggong is P80 per kilo!) Our streets became permanent garbage dumps. Maggots multiply to spread disease. Our communities stink. Again, the whole nation was witnessing sickening crimes attributed to people in the government. Talo na naman!

We are now 90 million people but the gap between the rich, 30%(middle-class and rich), 70% (lower-class and rural/urban poor) remains the same for one century.

When will this end? It's been more than 350 years since Lapu's-Lapu's victory, 100 years since Rizal's martyrdom and we're nowhere as a people, as a nation. Malas pa rin!

Some wise guy said the Filipino has damaged culture. Bully! And what do you call other foreigners? They used slaves in their plantations, and land grabbed from the natives! What should we call such culture? Predatory Culture? Bully Culture? What about another country? How many countries did it put under the barrel of its gunships, so they could gloat that the sun never sets on their empire?" What shall we call this culture? Sahib culture? Gunga Din culture? C'mon, give us a break!

We Filipinos have strengths and endearing values. We are Christians, God-fearing, and peace-loving. We are patient and tolerant (matiisin to a fault). We are musical. We sing our blues away. We have a sense of humor.

We concoct and text Imelda hyperboles and Erap malapropism.) We learn fast because we are bilingual and highly educated. We've got thousands of MBA's and PhD's in economics and management from AIM, WHARTON, HARVARD, UCLA, etc. We've got a surplus of technocrats for nation-building. We want to work if there are vacancies. We want to go into business if we have the capital. We want to obey the law if the law is being enforced. We want to live and die here, if there is peace and order.

But, but and but. We have many shortcomings. We are immature in our politics. Given a choice on whom to elect: a handsome pabling movie star or an honest and brilliant political scientist, we'll vote for the movie star. No brainer tayo dito. Talo!

We have many stupidities.

Like dogs, we pee (Bawal umihi dito) walls and tires.

Our driving is suicidal.

Our service quality is inferior.

Clerks at City Hall act arrogant. Sales ladies at department stores don't know their product features.

Tourists get mugged by thugs in uniform.

Police lay traps so they can catch you and ask for a bribe.

What's wrong with us?

We don't have a great leader. And good governance.

In Singapore, Lee Kwan Yu did it. The constituency profile is similar to Filipinos.)

Admittedly, this country is impossible, tiresome, and frustrating. But it's the only country we've got. We live and die here. Will we ever see the dawn?

Diyos na mahabagin, Kailan pa kaya? Ubos na ang aming luha. Katog na ang aming mga tuhod. Tuyo na ang aming utak. Hingal na ang aming puso. Dios na mahabagin, isalba Mo po kami. Hindi po kami talunan. At lalo pong hindi kami tanga. Sunod-sunod lang po ang malas.

Translation:

Merciful God, when? We've ran out of tears. Our knees are weak. Our brains are dried out. Our hearts breathless. Merciful God, save us. We shall not be overcome, and indeed we're not idiots. It's just bad luck through and through.

THOUGHTS ON EL FILIBUSTERISMO

Into the midst of the silence the priest's voice broke sad and deliberate, but consoling: "God will forgive you, Señor--Simoun, " he said. "He knows that we are fallible, He has seen that you have suffered, and in ordaining that the chastisement for your faults should come as death from the very ones you have instigated to crime, we can see His infinite mercy. He has frustrated your plans one by one, the best conceived, first by the death of Maria Clara, then by a lack of preparation, then in some mysterious way. Let us bow to His will and render Him thanks!"

"According to you, then," feebly responded the sick man, "His will is that these islands--"

"Should continue in the condition in which they suffer?" finished the priest, seeing that the other hesitated. "I don't know, sir, I can't read the thought of the Inscrutable. I know that He has not abandoned those peoples who in their supreme moments have trusted in Him and made Him the Judge of their cause, I know that His arm has never failed when, justice long trampled upon and every recourse gone, the oppressed have taken up the sword to fight for home and wife and children, for their inalienable rights, which, as the German poet says,
shine ever there above, unextinguished and inextinguishable, like the eternal stars themselves. No, God is justice, He cannot abandon His cause, the cause of liberty, without which no justice is possible."

"Why then has He denied me His aid?" asked the sick man in a voice charged with bitter complaint.

"Because you chose means that He could not sanction," was the severe reply. "The glory of saving a country is not for him who has contributed to its ruin. You have believed that what crime and iniquity have defiled and deformed, another crime and another iniquity can purify and redeem. Wrong! Hate never produces anything but monsters and crime criminals! Love alone realizes wonderful works, virtue alone can save! No, if our country has ever to be free, it will not be through vice and crime, it will not be so by corrupting its sons, deceiving some and bribing others, no! Redemption presupposes virtue, virtue sacrifice, and sacrifice love!"

"Well, I accept your explanation, " rejoined the sick man, after a pause. "I have been mistaken, but, because I have been mistaken, will that God deny liberty to a people and yet save many who are much worse criminals than I am? What is my mistake compared to the crimes of our rulers? Why has that God to give more heed to my iniquity than to the cries of so many innocents? Why has He not stricken me down and then made the people triumph? Why does He let so many worthy and just ones suffer and look complacently upon their tortures?"

"The just and the worthy must suffer in order that their ideas may be known and extended! You must shake or shatter the vase to spread its perfume, you must smite the rock to get the spark! There is something providential in the persecutions of tyrants, Señor Simoun!"

"I knew it," murmured the sick man, "and therefore I encouraged the tyranny."

"Yes, my friend, but more corrupt influences than anything else were spread. You fostered the social rottenness without sowing an idea. From this fermentation of vices loathing alone could spring, and if anything were born overnight it would be at best a mushroom, for mushrooms only can spring spontaneously from filth. True it is that the vices of the government are fatal to it, they cause its death, but they kill also the society in whose bosom they are developed. An immoral government presupposes a demoralized people, a conscienceless administration, greedy and servile citizens in the settled parts, outlaws and brigands in the mountains. Like master, like slave! Like government, like country!"

A brief pause ensued, broken at length by the sick man's voice. "Then, what can be done?"

"Suffer and work!"

"Suffer--work!" echoed the sick man bitterly. "Ah, it's easy to say that, when you are not suffering, when the work is rewarded. If your God demands such great sacrifices from man, man who can scarcely count upon the present and doubts the future, if you had seen what I have, the miserable, the wretched, suffering unspeakable tortures for crimes they have not committed, murdered to cover up the faults and incapacity of others, poor fathers of families torn from their homes to work to no purpose upon highways that are destroyed each day and seem only to serve for sinking families into want. Ah, to suffer, to work, is the will of God! Convince them that their murder is their salvation, that their work is the prosperity of the home! To suffer, to work! What God is that?"

"A very just God, Señor Simoun," replied the priest. "A God who chastises our lack of faith, our vices, the little esteem in which we hold dignity and the civic virtues. We tolerate vice, we make ourselves its accomplices, at times we applaud it, and it is just, very just that we suffer the consequences, that our children suffer them. It is the God of liberty, Señor Simoun, who obliges us to love it, by making the yoke heavy for us--a God of mercy, of equity, who while He chastises us, betters us and only grants prosperity to him who has merited it through his efforts. The school of suffering tempers, the arena of combat strengthens the soul.

"I do not mean to say that our liberty will be secured at the sword's point, for the sword plays but little part in modern affairs, but that we must secure it by making ourselves worthy of it, by exalting the intelligence and the dignity of the individual, by loving justice, right, and greatness, even to the extent of dying for them,--and when a people reaches that height God will provide a weapon, the idols will be shattered, the tyranny will crumble like a house of cards and liberty will shine out like the first dawn.

"Our ills we owe to ourselves alone, so let us blame no one. If Spain should see that we were less complaisant with tyranny and more disposed to struggle and suffer for our rights, Spain would be the first to grant us liberty, because when the fruit of the womb reaches maturity woe unto the mother who would stifle it! So, while the Filipino people has not sufficient energy to proclaim, with head erect and bosom bared, its rights to social life, and to guarantee it with its sacrifices, with its own blood; while we see our countrymen in private life ashamed within themselves, hear the voice of conscience roar in rebellion and protest, yet in public life keep silence or even echo the words of him who abuses them in order to mock the abused; while we see them wrap themselves up in their egotism and with a forced smile praise the most iniquitous actions, begging with their eyes a portion of the booty--why grant them liberty? With Spain or without Spain they would always be the same, and perhaps worse! Why independence, if the slaves of today will be the tyrants of tomorrow? And that they will be such is not to be doubted, for he who submits to tyranny loves it.

"Señor Simoun, when our people is unprepared, when it enters the fight through fraud and force, without a clear understanding of what it is doing, the wisest attempts will fail, and better that they do fail, since why commit the wife to the husband if he does not sufficiently love her, if he is not ready to die for her?"

Excerpts from El Filibusterismo, by Dr. Jose Rizal

"... AND THIS TIME IT WILL BE BLOODY."

Brother Knights of the Wilhelmsfeld/Heidelberg Chapter,

Lazir cannot forget the day he was conferred the title "Knight of Rizal" in June 1996 during the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day Centennial, sponsored and organized by no other than the able and Honorable Sir Consul Heinrich B. Strack himself and his company with one year preparations!

Lazir vividly remembers the words "fight Injustice"...as he took his solemn oath! Mushake officiated as Chapter Commander Sir Rainer Weber assisted.

For 10 long years, Lazir refused to join the KOR, from 1985 to 1995, because he thought it awkward to carry the title "Sir" or be called a "Knight" where he didn't do anything good for his country?!

Did Samuela, in his lifetime, ever refuse a personal promotion where something inappropriate was involved, the way Lazir refused Esguerra's promotion of Lazir to the next higher rank last June 2009? Can Samuela claim to have integrity like Dr Jose Rizal, Lazir's hero and idol? (Judging by the way Samuela haphazardly pushed for Sir Jun Zerrudo's and Lazir's expulsions, Samuela failed most miserably!)

If Samuel Samuela, KGOR from Manila IHQ, were a German Public Attorney, he would (might) have been responsible for these erroneous investigations that left the guilty OFF THE HOOK while hanging the innocent, the way he came up to his conclusions that Lazir "shamed" the KOR for Lazir's writings of 2007/2008!

{Did Samuela think Quiambao's silence about the approximately P340,000 (ca. Euro 5,000) confirmed donated by Mushake 1999/2000, ignored by Esguerra although not in the KOR Books of Accounts since 1999 up to the present!, not being spent for KOR/Rizalian purposes, and so on and so forth, not SHAMEFUL for the KOR organization? Did Quiambao pocket the funds? Why was Mushake calling Sir Dr Hans Hack asking the latter to STOP Lazir from writing an Expose about a well-intended KOR donation? Because Quiambao spent the funds for things not in the KOR statutes, R.A. 646, KOR Manual? Samuela sees Lazir's writings in 2007/2008 calling a "spade a spade" "shameful" but not Quiambao's and Esguerra's COVER-UP of the missing Euro 5,000 which transpired about 7 years earlier? Is Samuela blind to Supreme Commander corruption/shameful acts, yet sees Lazir's truthful writings "shameful"? To borrow from Alcoba, Esguerra's KGOR, Samuela should perhaps see a Psychiatrist?}

Case 1:
Policeman Karl-Heinz Kurras reportedly murdered Benno Ohnesorg in cold blood June 1967 but the Police/authorities/Berlin government(?) recommended Kurras' exoneration/exculpation from any wrong-doing! He was!

Case 2:
A female RAF member (Verena Becker?) was reportedly observed by a then 32 yr old employee from her office window above near the crime scene as the female shooter, passenger on a Suzuki motorcycle, allegedly shot/murdered Attorney General Siegfried Buback, his bodyguard and driver April 1977 as "skillfully as a circus artist" and the BKA/German government, by all its pronouncements, hunted a "male" terrorist! Was Becker the murderer that never got tried as such?

Recommend that Samuel Samuela's findings all be thrown into File 13 (dump trash for paper recycling) for worthlessness, partisanship and looking into cases that his superiors only told him to look into!

In the KOR:

These 3 IHQ officials are not Knights nor Sirs: Quiambao, Esguerra, Samuela.

We saw the corrupt practices of Quiambao as he quickly promoted Paras in so short a time period from KR to KOR, KCR, KGOR for nothing done of value to the Philippines nor the KOR organization! And we did/said nothing.

We saw how Esguerra slept on his job as Quiambao kept mum on the missing Euro 5,000; as Paras claimed to have written "Born to be a Hero"; as Alcoba used vile language against Sir Barry Bowman, Sir Lucien, Sir Don Brennock, Sir Peter Eisele (yet Esguerra exalted Alcoba to KGOR July 2007 in Paris!); as abusive Knights became KGOR and we (almost) again did/said nothing.

We saw Samuel Samuela persecute Sir Jun Zerrudo and Lazir, but the same Samuela didn't even investigate nor prosecute the wrong-doers named Paras (fake author of someone's book!), Alcoba (used vile language as he couldn't catch-up on intellectual discussions!), Collantes (reported to have produced a forged document puportedly signed by Sir Ka Miling, his own uncle!) whose acts were almost public knowledge for so long!

We see Esguerra still asleep on his job and Samuela gladly doing one-sided investigations of his Boss' critics as they both use KOR letterheads with Dr Jose Rizal's name & picture and the words "... non-partisan"...

We've seen how Esguerra lied to the KOR General Membership when he authored "How to be Un-Rizalian" in 2007 and again in the same year when he wrote to Sir Jun Zerrudo that he does not TOLERATE abusive language (please see attachments above). In about 3 months, the same lying Esguerra, current Supreme Commander, promoted Alcoba, whose favorite language is exactly what Esguerra DOES NOT TOLERATE!

Records are on hand that Esguerra wrote lies. The attached writings of his prove he himself dishonored the KOR, himself, his name, his own family and even his grandchildren! What a SHAME for an incumbent Supreme Commander! Soon he will be presiding in Prague, Czech Republic next month?

Is there HONOR inviting a lying Supreme Commander to speak before honorable guests? Is there HONOR allowing a liar to speak of Rizalism/Dr Jose Rizal before distinguished visitors? Is there HONOR receiving KOR, KCR, KGOR promotions from a lying Supreme Commander Esguerra who also promoted undeserving (absence of Proof a person "deserved" a conferred Title under question makes the conferrment null and void) Alcoba, Nollas, Plueckebaum
and Guansing? Don't we speak of FAKES when the conferror lies thru his teeth as he conferrs titles to those who did nothing honorable to KOR and the country?

Didn't Esguerra write in his Memo of 18 June 2009 that a case will be filed against Lazir? Is Esguerra lying again?

When we see WRONGDOING and see nothing WRONG with it, we lose Rizalism! When we accept a title or rank, although given by a FAKE, does the title or rank have any value?

And if the so-called Prophets of Rizalism and Dr Jose Rizal keep their SILENCE while SEEING wrongdoing before their very eyes, if KOR officials themselves are the corruptors of others' minds, perpetrators of corrupt practices...instead of being harbingers of HOPE and HONOR to the righteous and MEN OF GOODWILL, indeed the next People Power revolution in the Philippines will be bloody!

Adieu KOR?

For country and people!

:)
Lazir
Proud Knight who refused Esguerra's promotion offer "to the next higher rank" because Esguerra is UNDESERVING to promote Lazir!

P.S. - Again, from the famous words of Plueckebaum as he wrote to Lazir one time: ...if you have something with another brother Knight, talk to him in person (or something like those words...). Then, early this year 2009, the same Plueckebaum denounced Lazir instead of talking to Lazir in person! Plueckebaum was shortly conferred the KGOR rank and title by KOR IHQ (Quiambao or Esguerra is moot, as former is corrupt and the latter tells Rizalism lies!).

MR. RAMON ZERRUDO

Scarborough Chapter, Canada

Dear Sir Jun:

As I am doing his communication, I received an E-Mail (an editorial) with a subject: Time to Move, Time to Re-structure. It states that the editorial comes from Ramon Zerrudo, it’s you my friend, Sir Jun.

A free expression of ideas is welcome in our organization because it is through this medium that the group is cultivated, harnessed and strengthened. Matters of great importance are crystallized and solutions to problems are taken collectively. Of course we do not tolerate vulgar and indecent words in KOR. Let us help them maintain the sense of decency or delicadeza in words and deeds as true Rizalists.

At any rate, since we might have new issues and concerns in our one-on-one communication, I will not give comment to your editorial. By this time, Manila has prepared an answer for it. Hope you’ll savor our reply. Was Sir Eisle the knight who questioned my position as Acting Supreme Commander? I appreciate you logic in stating so and I don’t have to explain it to him. Good day and God bless.

Fraternally yours,

SIR VIRGILIO R. ESGUERRA, KGCR

Acting Supreme Commander

Bakit alangan? Hindi naman vegetarian ’yon. At public service nga ’yon, makakatulong dagdagan ng cholesterol at salitre ang dugong dumadaloy papuntang puso n’ya. Kung meron man s’yang dugo, kung meron man s’yang puso.

Bakit alangan?

Pekeng presidente, pekeng asal presidente.

At pasabi-sabi pa ng “Annihilate the Abus!” Di ba noon pa n’ya ’yan pinangako?

OPEN LETTER TO THE KNIGHTS OF RIZAL

As the Knights of Rizal, you people should have already settled the issue of the Rizal retraction scandal. The shameful damaging controversy has been going on for more than 110 years now. Rizal was condemned to death as an infidel. He was framed with the crime of rebellion to kill him for brilliantly attacking the religious establishment as even the 2005 published Opus Dei book admits.

Through the years, you Knights of Rizal, historians, biographers, and even a famous lady columnist wrote that it does not matter whether Rizal retracted or not because it is a non-issue. I ask: are you people really that frightened of the truth? And to think that some of you are lawyers by profession. You were trained in the art of cross-examination precisely to ferret out the truth. When has the truth ever been a non-issue in human tragedy? We Filipinos have yet to acknowledge that our hero, Rizal, died truthful to his principles and humanitarian ideals. Indeed, he met his death intellectually sober and not drunk with religious lies. Clearly, the church in authority found it necessary to put Rizal to death. After all, it is easier to destroy the reputation of a dead man than it is to destroy his truthful writings, especially if he remains alive doing more truthful writings. Rizal advocated the rational way of life and he therefore got to be the notorious enemy of Christianity. Rizal wanted us to grow up and to stop living in fear and in guilt. Moreover, to stop wasting our time falling on our knees praying daily to a Supreme Being out there to give us this day our daily bread and to lead us not into temptation down here.

Christianity could never allow Rizal’s teachings to revolutionize the Filipino way of thinking: it is always better to think than it is to believe. Unfortunately, faith condemns people not to think. And sadly, with faith, millions believe that Rizal died as a penitent Catholic totally rejecting Rizal‘s message: “Be careful, choose well, for this world is full of deceits and deceivers.” And to think that after he was executed Rizal was not even granted a Catholic burial. It only proves that the Rizal retraction story was pure gimcrackery. It was concocted by the priesthood industry to protect Christianity with its vested interest in human misery. In this 21st century, we poor Filipinos are still searching for our identity and prosperity and social sanity which Rizal struggled and gave his precious life for. Oh, you Knights of Rizal, wake up! Rizal is still a vague hero to millions of Filipinos! Only the few know Rizal as a brilliant thinker who was executed for being too brilliant a thinker who catered not to the authority of the church, but served instead his people and the future welfare of his own country! Indeed, thanks to the courage of great thinkers in the stature of a Rizal, Christianity today is tearing itself apart externally as it is collapsing internally.

I accuse you Knights of Rizal of both errancy and complicity in the second assassination of Rizal’s character and reputation. It is worthless to ignore those who maliciously invented Rizal’s retraction document hours before he was executed. It is more crucial to defend Rizal’s loyalty to veracity, profound sense of common human decency, and unquestionable level of scientific honesty. If we, the Filipino people, continue to suffer under the failure of our social values and religious beliefs, it is simply due to the historical success of Christianity in the Philippines. Indeed, as products of our Christian schools, colleges, and universities we have yet to be taught how to emulate our great hero - the rare and brave thinking Filipino that he was - who struggled against those made corrupt by wealth, power, and glory selling nothing but the gospel of sacred lies and biblical falsehoods in this country since the 16th century.

Gentlemen, our chief hero was put to death for being humanistic, scientific, and a heretic. Indeed, the same Rizal, the sane and rational man that he was, with dignity and self-respect - refused to fall on his knees in blind obedience to anything fantastic be it ecclesiastic, apostolic, pontific, or even theologic.

Yours in Rizal, Poch Suzara
